What Little Caesars Arena is and who plays there

Little Caesars Arena is the indoor arena in downtown Detroit where the NHL's Detroit Red Wings and the NBA's Detroit Pistons play. It opened on September 5, 2017, and seats 19,515 for hockey and 20,332 for basketball, with concert capacity ranging from about 15,000 to 22,000 depending on the stage setup. The venue's own guide rounds those figures to around 20,000 for hockey and 21,000 for basketball.

  • Red Wings: the NHL regular season runs October into April.
  • Pistons: the NBA regular season also runs October into April, with playoffs into spring.
  • Concerts and events: arena tours, family shows and other events through the year, booked by 313 Presents, the venue's operator.

A Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL) team is scheduled to begin play here in 2026, and a WNBA expansion team in 2029. The arena sits on Woodward Avenue between downtown and Midtown, a short walk from Comerica Park and Ford Field.

Little Caesars Arena seating chart: levels and layout

The arena's design is unusual. The event floor sits 40 feet below street level, so you enter at the Street Level Concourse partway up the bowl and walk down to the lower seats. The venue lists seven levels, from the Event Level at the floor through the Club Level, the Street Level Concourse, the Blue Cross Suites, the Upper Concourse, the Labatt Blue Club and the Michigan First Gondolas at the top.

  • 100 level (lower bowl): the sections closest to the ice or court, reached from the Street Level Concourse. Section 112, a corner, runs rows 1 to 25 with entrances at rows 18 and 25, so the lower rows are a walk down.
  • 200 level (also sold as Mezzanine): the upper bowl, reached from the Upper Concourse. Corner sections are short; section 231 has only 11 rows.
  • Gondola: a level of seats suspended above the main bowl on one side, closer to the action than a traditional top deck would be.
  • Clubs and suites: the Players Club behind the benches, the East Club across from them and the North End Club above one end.

Seat guides place the team benches in front of sections 121 to 124, with the Players Club seats in front of 121 to 123, and seat 1 on the right side of a section as you face the floor. Portal numbers help you find your way: portals 1 to 20 are on the Street Level, 21 to 72 on the Upper Concourse, 73 to 77 at the Labatt Blue Club and 78 to 82 at the gondolas.

Best seats for Red Wings, Pistons and concerts

Hockey

Center-ice seats in the lower bowl are the premium choice, and the 200-level sideline seats near center ice are the better value for watching plays form. For a Red Wings fan, the end where Detroit shoots twice (in the first and third periods) is the one to buy behind; guides put it around sections 112 to 116, though they differ on exact numbers, so check before you buy. Low rows behind the nets put the glass in your sightline for the far end.

Basketball

For the Pistons, sideline seats in the 100 level beat the baseline sections behind the baskets, where the stanchion and the players on the near end block parts of the court. The 200 level along the sideline gives the cleanest full-court view for the money.

Concerts

For an end-stage show, the lower-bowl sections along the sides nearest the stage give the best balance of distance and angle. Seats directly opposite the stage in the upper level are the farthest from the performer. Seats behind the stage are usually not sold, or are sold with a limited view, so read the listing notes.

Seats to think twice about

  • Upper rows of some 200-level sections: seat guides report a partial overhang obstruction at the top of sections such as 207, 216, 222 and 231, which can cut off the scoreboard.
  • The gondola, for anyone uneasy with heights: the venue itself advises guests with a fear of heights not to buy gondola seats.

Parking, QLine and rideshare at Little Caesars Arena

Parking around the arena is run by Olympia Development, which manages 32 facilities in the area, including the Comerica, Tigers, McLaren, Temple West, Trinity Health and UWM garages. Rates vary by event, and the operator recommends reserving ahead at ParkDistrictDetroit.com. The facilities open three hours before events and close two hours after, take credit cards only and do not allow overnight parking.

  • Accessible parking: the Trinity Health, UWM and Temple West garages have the closest accessible spaces, first come, first served. Accessible drop-off and pickup is on westbound Fisher Service Drive near the UWM Garage.
  • QLine streetcar: the free QLine runs 3.3 miles along Woodward Avenue between Congress Street and Grand Boulevard. The Sproat/Adelaide stop is at the arena, and the Grand Circus stop is a short walk south.
  • Buses: DDOT route 4 and SMART routes 461 and 462 stop at Sproat and Adelaide streets.
  • Rideshare: drop-off is off westbound Fisher Service Drive.

On nights when the Tigers or Lions are also at home nearby, garages fill and Woodward traffic slows, so the QLine or an earlier arrival pays off. See the venue's directions and parking page for current garages.

Little Caesars Arena bag policy and entry (as of 2026)

As of 2026, Little Caesars Arena enforces a stricter bag rule than many arenas. It does not use a clear-bag allowance; instead, bags larger than 4 by 6 by 1.5 inches are prohibited.

  • Allowed: single-compartment bags, wallets, clutches and fanny packs within that 4 by 6 by 1.5 inch limit.
  • Exceptions: diaper bags up to 16 by 16 by 8 inches, and medical bags.
  • Doors: typically 90 minutes before Red Wings and Pistons games and 60 minutes before concerts.
  • Tickets: mobile ticketing through Ticketmaster is the primary entry method.
  • Re-entry: none.
  • Entrances: the Chevrolet Entry (northeast), Comerica Entry (southeast), Meijer Entry (southwest) and a priority entrance.

A standard purse or small backpack will not pass, so plan to leave it in the car or hotel. Check the arena's A-Z guide for the current policy before you go.

Concourses, food and amenities

The concourse wraps around the bowl under a clear roof and connects the arena to the surrounding buildings, so it feels more like an indoor street than a ring corridor. The arena is cashless; free reverse ATM kiosks turn cash into prepaid cards inside the box office and outside portal 9 on the Street Level, and outside portal 58 on the Upper Concourse. Smoking and vaping are prohibited. Accessible seating is offered at every price point, and the arena runs a phone line for companion-seat requests.

How the arena came to be

The arena was designed by HOK and built for roughly 863 million dollars, with a large share of public financing; it is owned by Detroit's Downtown Development Authority. It replaced Joe Louis Arena as the Red Wings' home, and the Pistons moved downtown from The Palace of Auburn Hills the same year. That move put all four of Detroit's major league teams inside the city limits for the first time since 1974. The arena was meant to anchor a larger mixed-use District Detroit, though much of that wider development had not been built as of 2026.
