What Kill Tony is
Kill Tony is a live stand-up comedy show recorded as a podcast, created and hosted by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe and produced and co-hosted by Brian Redban. A Kill Tony ticket puts you in the audience for a taping: names of aspiring comics are drawn at random from a bucket, each gets one minute of stand-up, and then Hinchcliffe, Redban and a panel of guest comedians or celebrities interview them. Comics who do well can become regulars.
The show premiered on June 3, 2013, and has released a new episode every Monday since. It began at The Comedy Store in Los Angeles, moved to Austin, Texas, with its 487th episode, and now tapes at the Comedy Mothership on Sixth Street. It streams on YouTube and podcast platforms, and Wikipedia cites figures of around 3 million downloads per episode, with Kill Tony ranked 19th on Spotify's podcast chart in November 2024.
What it is like in the room
A taping is unpredictable by design. Nobody, including the hosts, knows who will be drawn next, and many of the bucket pulls are first-timers. Some sets fall flat, and the interview that follows is often where the biggest laughs land. Regulars add recurring bits that longtime viewers recognize, so fans of the podcast get more of the in-jokes than newcomers do.
The humor is adult and often deliberately offensive, and the panel's questioning of the comics can be harsh. If you are sensitive to crude or edgy material, this is not the show for you; if you enjoy roast-style comedy, the live energy is the point.
The guest panel
Most episodes add one or more guest hosts alongside Hinchcliffe and Redban. Guest lineups are not always announced in advance, so treat any rumored guest as a bonus rather than the reason to buy.
Where Kill Tony tapes and tours
The show's home and its traveling dates are very different experiences.
- Comedy Mothership, Austin: the weekly home since the show settled at the club on Sixth Street, after earlier Austin runs at Antone's Nightclub (18 episodes) and Vulcan Gas Company (92 episodes). In October 2026 the club's schedule listed Monday Kill Tony tapings from 8 to 10 p.m. in its Fat Man room, both shown as sold out.
- First arena show (New Year's Eve 2023): episodes 647 and 648 were recorded at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park, outside Austin, in front of the show's largest audience to that point.
- Arenas in 2024: the show announced dates at Madison Square Garden and the Forum in Inglewood, and a Kill Tony show was part of Netflix Is a Joke Fest 2024.
- Road tapings: the show has recorded in cities including Chicago, Dallas, Nashville, New York, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Washington, D.C., Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, London, Manchester, Sydney and Brisbane.
Read each listing's title closely. A Kill Tony taping is a different show from a stand-up set by one of its regulars, and both appear on ticket sites. The live event list on this page shows current dates.
Where to sit for a Kill Tony taping
At the club
At a comedy club, almost every seat is close. The main tradeoff is between the front tables, where you are near the comics (and may become part of the bit), and seats farther back or to the side, where you can watch the panel and the crowd at once. For a show built on reactions and interviews, a center seat with a clear line to the panel table is the ideal.
Arenas and theaters
- Lower bowl facing the stage: the best choice. Comedy needs faces and timing, and a raised center seat gives you both, plus a straight view of the screens.
- Floor: closest to the stage, but flat. Beyond the first sections, you will watch the screens more than the comics. Check the listing for whether the floor is seated or standing.
- Side sections near the stage: close but angled; the panel table can block part of the view of the comic at the microphone.
- Upper level: the value option. Comedy sound carries well in most arenas, but at this distance the screens are the show.
Avoid seats behind the stage line unless the listing describes an in-the-round setup.
How Kill Tony tickets work and what demand looks like
Kill Tony tickets are scarce at home because a club-size room serves an audience built by a national podcast.
- Club drops are limited. As of October 2026, the Comedy Mothership routed its Kill Tony page to a registration-style "launch" system rather than a simple first-come sale, and the weekly tapings regularly show as sold out. Resale is often the only route left once a week's drop is gone.
- Arena dates sell on name recognition. Big-city arena tapings draw podcast fans who rarely get to Austin, so weekend dates in major markets move first.
- Guest buzz moves prices. When a well-known guest is rumored, resale demand can jump late, and it can fall back if the rumor fades.
Every GoodSeats order is backed by a 100% guarantee. Club policies and schedules are posted on the Comedy Mothership's site.
House rules at the Comedy Mothership
Policies change, so check the venue's current rules before you go. As of October 2026, the Comedy Mothership at 320 E. 6th Street in Austin listed these policies:
- Age: 21 and over only.
- Drink minimum: two drinks per guest, and non-alcoholic drinks count.
- Phones: phones and smartwatches are locked in Yondr pouches (sealed fabric cases) on arrival and unlocked at the end of the show, so plan to be offline for the evening.
- Signing up to perform: would-be comics need a valid photo ID and 60 seconds of prepared material. The club's FAQ says sign-up runs from 5 to 7 p.m. at Shakespeare's Pub, where names go into the bucket.
Arena and theater tapings follow each venue's own rules on age, bags and phones, so read the event listing.
