Who Mariah Carey is
Mariah Carey is the pop and R&B singer with the most Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles of any solo artist (19), and today her live shows center on holiday tours and Las Vegas residencies. Born in Huntington, New York, on March 27, 1969, she is known for a five-octave vocal range and her use of the whistle register (the highest vocal register, above normal falsetto). Rolling Stone ranked her the fifth-greatest singer of all time in 2023.
She is the only artist whose first five singles all reached number one in the US, and she holds the record for most weeks at the top of the Hot 100 (101). With more than 220 million records sold, five Grammy Awards plus a Grammy Global Impact Award, and a place in the Songwriters Hall of Fame, she has a catalog that runs from "Vision of Love" (1990) through "We Belong Together" (2005) to Here for It All (2025). Her 1994 album Merry Christmas and its single "All I Want for Christmas Is You," which finally reached number one in 2019, earned her the nickname "Queen of Christmas."
What a Mariah Carey show is like
A Mariah Carey concert is built around the voice and the persona. Her diva persona is part of the act, holiday shows feature themed outfits, and backup dancers supply much of the movement while she concentrates on singing. Reviewers of her recent Christmas shows singled out her vocals and described the production as old-fashioned in a deliberately fun way.
Her shows come in two main types:
- Christmas shows: her 2023 holiday tour was structured in three acts, "Fun Christmas," "Inspirational Christmas" and "MC Hit List," so you get holiday standards, gospel-leaning material and her pop hits, closing with "All I Want for Christmas Is You." Guests have included the Rockettes.
- Residencies: catalog-focused shows in Las Vegas theaters, such as #1 to Infinity, which played her US number-one singles in chronological order, and The Celebration of Mimi, built around her 2005 album The Emancipation of Mimi.
Early in her career she rarely toured, citing stage fright, and her 1992 MTV Unplugged set was partly a response to critics who doubted she could sing live. That history is part of why her concerts are treated as events.
Mariah Carey tours and residencies, dated
Carey has completed fourteen tours and five residencies. The runs below are documented in this page's sources; current dates appear in the live event list.
- All I Want for Christmas Is You: A Night of Joy and Festivity (2014 to 2019): an annual holiday residency that began at the Beacon Theatre in New York on December 15, 2014.
- #1 to Infinity (from 2015): a residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
- The Butterfly Returns (2018 to 2020): her next Las Vegas residency.
- Merry Christmas One and All! (November 15 to December 17, 2023): a holiday tour of the US and Canada that played Madison Square Garden, the Hollywood Bowl, Scotiabank Arena, the United Center and Little Caesars Arena, among others. It grossed about 30 million US dollars and sold more than 200,000 tickets. Sources differ on the count, listing 16 dates in the US plus four in Canada.
- The Celebration of Mimi (April 2024 to November 2025): a residency at Dolby Live in Las Vegas that ran 24 shows there through February 2025, then expanded into international legs for 46 shows in total.
- Christmas Time (2024 onward): a North American holiday tour from November 6 to December 17, 2024, on which three dates were canceled due to illness, followed by ten holiday shows at Dolby Live in Las Vegas from November 28 to December 13, 2025.
The rhythm is clear: holiday shows in November and December, and residencies in between. Year-round, conventional album tours have become the exception.
Where to sit for Mariah Carey
Because the show centers on vocals, staging and costume, the best seat is the one with a clean, centered view of the stage and good sound, not necessarily the closest one.
Arenas
- Lower bowl facing the stage: the strongest choice for a voice-led production, with elevation over the floor and a full view of the set.
- Floor: closest to her, but the floor is flat; rear floor rows depend on the screens.
- Upper level center: the value option. For this show, a centered upper seat beats a low seat at a steep side angle.
Las Vegas theaters
Residency venues such as Dolby Live and The Colosseum are far smaller than an arena, so most seats feel close. Center orchestra (the main floor facing the stage) is the premium choice; the upper tier is the value option and still offers a full view of the staging.
Outdoor venues
The Hollywood Bowl drew the highest single-show gross of her 2023 holiday tour. It is an open-air amphitheater, so a December show there calls for layers; see the Hollywood Bowl venue guide for its seating layout.
How demand for Mariah Carey tickets behaves
Mariah Carey's ticket market is seasonal in a way few artists' are:
- December peaks. Holiday shows run in a short window from early November to mid-December, and the dates closest to Christmas usually draw the most buyers.
- Gift buying. Many tickets are bought as gifts, so demand rises after Thanksgiving, even for shows in early December.
- Group purchases. Families and friend groups buy blocks of seats together, which makes pairs and odd numbers easier to find than four or more together.
- Residency travel. Las Vegas dates draw out-of-town buyers; weekend shows and holiday-week dates move first.
- Presales. Tours generally open with artist or card-holder presales before the general on-sale.
Resale prices can sit above or below face value and can move late as holiday plans change. GoodSeats orders include free shipping and no digital transfer fees. For announcements, see Mariah Carey's official site.
