How the Las Vegas event scene works

Las Vegas packs major-league sports, arena concerts, long-running residencies and nightly comedy into a few square miles, most of it on or just off the Strip. The Raiders, Golden Knights and Aces give the city three top-level teams, and the arenas and resort theaters book shows nearly every night.

One geographic detail helps when reading addresses: most Strip venues, including Allegiant Stadium, T-Mobile Arena and Sphere, sit in unincorporated Paradise rather than within Las Vegas city limits. For a visitor the difference is only on paper, since all of them are a short ride from Strip hotels.

• Sports: NFL at Allegiant Stadium, NHL at T-Mobile Arena, WNBA at Michelob Ultra Arena.
• Concerts and residencies: Sphere, the Colosseum at Caesars Palace, T-Mobile Arena, MGM Grand Garden Arena and Allegiant Stadium for stadium tours.
• Comedy: clubs inside the resorts, plus headliners at the Colosseum and other resort theaters.
• Signature events: the Las Vegas Grand Prix each November and the National Finals Rodeo each December.

The teams and their buildings

• Las Vegas Raiders (NFL) play at Allegiant Stadium, opened in 2020 just west of the Strip across Interstate 15. It seats 65,000, expands to about 71,800, and sits under a fixed translucent roof with climate control, so weather is never a factor. The franchise was founded in Oakland in 1960, spent 1982 to 1994 in Los Angeles and has won three Super Bowls.
• Vegas Golden Knights (NHL) began play in 2017 at T-Mobile Arena, a 17,500-seat hockey building between Park MGM and New York-New York, and won the Stanley Cup in 2023.
• Las Vegas Aces (WNBA) have played at the 12,000-seat Michelob Ultra Arena at Mandalay Bay since 2018 and have won three championships there.
• Las Vegas Aviators, the Triple-A baseball team, play at Las Vegas Ballpark in Summerlin.

The Athletics plan to relocate to a new 33,000-seat ballpark on the Strip, projected for completion around 2028; treat that date as a projection.

Allegiant also hosts UNLV football, the Las Vegas Bowl (scheduled for December 31, 2026) and big one-off events: Super Bowl LVIII in February 2024, WrestleMania in 2025 and 2026, and Super Bowl LXIII, awarded for 2029. Raiders home games often draw large visiting crowds, since many fans build a Las Vegas trip around their own team's road game.

Concerts in Las Vegas: arenas, Sphere and the residency rooms

Concerts in Las Vegas split into touring stops and residencies, and that difference changes how you shop. A tour plays one or two nights; a residency repeats over weeks or months, so you can trade a Saturday for a Wednesday and often find a better seat.

Arenas and the stadium

• T-Mobile Arena, opened in 2016, holds up to about 20,000 for concerts and hosts UFC cards and boxing.
• MGM Grand Garden Arena, opened in 1993 with about 17,000 seats, made its name with boxing superfights and hosted the Grammy Awards in 2022.
• Michelob Ultra Arena at Mandalay Bay, 12,000 seats, has hosted the Latin Grammys seven times.
• Allegiant Stadium takes the stadium tours.

Sphere

Sphere, opened in September 2023 behind the Venetian, seats about 17,600 under a 16K screen that wraps over the audience. It runs multi-week residencies (U2 opened it; Metallica has announced dates from October 2026 into 2027) and its own films between concert nights. Because the screen is the show, the center sections of the 200 level are usually a better buy than the floor or the rear 100-level rows under the overhang.

The Colosseum at Caesars Palace

The 4,100-seat Colosseum opened in 2003 for Celine Dion, who played 1,141 shows there across two residencies, and later hosted Elton John and Adele. Its size means even the upper seats are close by arena standards.

Comedy shows on and off the Strip

Las Vegas comedy lives inside the resorts, which makes it easy to pair a show with dinner without leaving the building.

• Comedy Cellar Las Vegas, at the Rio on West Flamingo Road, opened in 2018 as an outpost of the Greenwich Village club. Shows are 18 and up, and a government photo ID is checked at the door.
• Brad Garrett's Comedy Club opened at the Tropicana in 2010 and moved to the MGM Grand in December 2011; Garrett still performs there regularly.
• Jimmy Kimmel's Comedy Club opened on the LINQ Promenade in 2019 in partnership with Caesars.
• Laugh Factory also runs a Las Vegas club; check the listing for its current location.

Arena-level comedians play the Colosseum, which has hosted Jerry Seinfeld, Dave Chappelle and Chelsea Handler. Schedules vary by room, so confirm the date and the age limit before you buy.

The Las Vegas calendar: when the big weeks fall

• Late summer to January: Raiders home games at Allegiant Stadium, plus UNLV football.
• October to April: Golden Knights hockey, with playoffs into spring in good years.
• Summer: Aces basketball during the WNBA season.
• November: the Las Vegas Grand Prix, a Formula 1 night race on a 6.2-kilometer circuit that includes a 1.9-kilometer straight down the Strip. Race week closes roads and pushes up hotel demand along the Strip.
• December: the National Finals Rodeo, held at UNLV's Thomas & Mack Center every December since 1985, and the Las Vegas Bowl on December 31, 2026.
• Year-round: residencies, Sphere films, UFC and boxing cards, and comedy.

When a fight weekend, a Raiders game and a residency share the same dates, hotel rates and show demand rise together. Midweek dates are typically the easier tickets for residencies and comedy.

Getting to the venues on foot, by tram or by Monorail

Many visitors drive to nothing at all, because the main venues are walkable from Strip hotels.

• T-Mobile Arena: about a two-minute walk from Park MGM and three from New York-New York. The free Mandalay Bay–Luxor–Excalibur tram and the Park MGM–Aria–Bellagio tram, plus the Monorail's MGM Grand station, all land within walking distance. The Park MGM and New York-New York restaurants fill before games.
• Allegiant Stadium: the Hacienda Bridge pedestrian route from Las Vegas Boulevard near Mandalay Bay and Luxor is under a mile, about 10 to 15 minutes on foot. Parking must be bought in advance, and rideshare uses Lot N on Dean Martin Drive.
• Sphere: connected by a pedestrian bridge to the Venetian side; on-site parking is limited, so most fans walk from the Venetian or park in nearby garages.
• Michelob Ultra Arena and the Colosseum are inside Mandalay Bay and Caesars Palace, so the host resort is the natural place to eat.

Bag rules are strict here. As of fall 2026, T-Mobile Arena allows only small bags up to 9 by 5 by 2 inches, Sphere about 6 by 6 by 2 inches, and Allegiant enforces a clear-bag policy (12 by 6 by 12 inches). Tips for out-of-town visitors

• Pick a hotel by venue. The south Strip (Mandalay Bay, Luxor, Excalibur, New York-New York, Park MGM) puts T-Mobile Arena, Allegiant Stadium and Michelob Ultra Arena within walking distance; the Venetian side suits Sphere.
• Count the walking. Strip distances look short on a map but run long on foot, especially in summer heat.
• Use residencies to your advantage. With many dates on sale at once, compare several nights before choosing a seat.
• Watch the event weeks. Grand Prix week in November and rodeo week in December change traffic and hotel rates across the city.
