Dates and live ticket listings appear here as soon as they are on sale. The guide below covers what to know before you buy.

The band in brief

The Goo Goo Dolls are a rock band formed in Buffalo, New York, in 1985, led by singer and guitarist John Rzeznik and bassist and singer Robby Takac. They started as a loud punk-influenced group and became one of the defining pop-rock bands of the late 1990s. Live, they are primarily a summer amphitheater act, and their shows lean on a catalog of radio hits that most of the crowd can sing.

Their breakthrough came with "Name" in 1995, from A Boy Named Goo. "Iris," written for the 1998 film City of Angels, spent 18 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard's Hot 100 Airplay chart and later ranked first on Billboard's list of the top pop songs from 1992 to 2012. The album it led, Dizzy Up the Girl (1998), went five times platinum. The band has 13 studio albums through Chaos in Bloom (2022) and four Grammy nominations.

What a Goo Goo Dolls concert sounds like

Expect a hits-heavy rock show. Rzeznik and Takac both sing lead, so the set moves between the polished pop-rock songs that made the band a radio staple and harder-edged material closer to its punk beginnings. Hits from the 1990s, led by "Name" and "Iris," are the moments the crowd waits for.

The crowd spans generations: fans who bought Dizzy Up the Girl when it came out, and younger fans who know the songs from streaming. The production is straightforward, built around the band rather than elaborate video, so being able to see the stage matters more than seeing a screen.

Notable tours and shows

Best seats at an amphitheater show

Most of their summer dates are at amphitheaters (outdoor venues with a covered reserved-seat section in front and an open lawn behind). Check the seating map on your event, since layouts vary.

  • Pit or front orchestra: the closest seats, sometimes sold as standing room. Best for fans who want to be part of the sing-along at the front.
  • Center reserved seats under the roof, mid-section: the best overall choice. Good sound, a full view of the band and cover if it rains.
  • Side reserved seats: fine for a band show, but the far edges can lose part of the stage behind speaker stacks.
  • Rear reserved rows under the roof overhang: dry but sometimes boxed in, with the roof cutting off the view of lighting rigs. Mid-section seats usually sound better.
  • Lawn: the casual, value option. Bring a blanket or low chair if the venue allows them, and expect to rely on video screens. On a hot afternoon or in rain, there is no cover.

At arena or casino dates, center lower-level seats facing the stage are the safest choice.

How their tickets tend to sell

The band tours most summers, so demand is steady rather than frantic. Weekend shows, hometown dates in Buffalo and anniversary runs draw the most interest. Front pit and center reserved seats go first, while lawn tickets are plentiful and often the last to sell. Presales commonly open a few days before the general on-sale.

On the resale market, lawn and rear reserved seats often loosen in the final days before a show, especially on weeknights or with poor weather forecasts. Premium front seats tend to hold. GoodSeats orders include guaranteed entry. For band news, see the band's official site.

Frequently asked questions

Where are the Goo Goo Dolls from?

Buffalo, New York. The band formed there in 1985, and the city declared July 4, 2004, Goo Goo Dolls Day when they played a free hometown show.

What venues do the Goo Goo Dolls play?

Mostly amphitheaters on summer tours, plus some arenas, casinos, fairgrounds and festivals. Their 2026 40th anniversary run with Neon Trees followed that pattern.

Do the Goo Goo Dolls play Iris live?

Yes. Iris, their 1998 hit from the City of Angels soundtrack, is their signature song and the one most fans come to hear. Setlists vary, so check recent shows if a particular song matters to you.

Are lawn seats worth it at a Goo Goo Dolls show?

For a relaxed night and a lower cost, yes, but you will be far from the stage and exposed to weather. Center reserved seats under the roof give a much better view and sound.
