Breaking Benjamin, in brief
Breaking Benjamin is a hard rock band from Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, formed in 1999 by singer and guitarist Benjamin Burnley, who writes most of the material and is the only member who has been there from the start. They are an active rock band (the radio format built around bands such as Disturbed, Shinedown and Three Days Grace), and in North America they tour mostly on shared bills with two or three other rock acts, so a ticket usually buys a full evening of heavy guitar music rather than one long set.
The catalog runs from Saturate (2002) and We Are Not Alone (2004) to Phobia (2006), Dear Agony (2009), Dark Before Dawn (2015) and Ember (2018). Dark Before Dawn debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and Ember at number three. The band's best-known songs include "So Cold", "The Diary of Jane", "Breath", "I Will Not Bow", "Failure" and "Blow Me Away", the last of which was written for the Halo 2 soundtrack. Wikipedia credits the band with more than 19 million units sold in the United States.
Lineup changes and the 2014 rebuild
The band's history splits into two eras. The original lineup made four albums before Burnley's recurring illnesses put the band on hiatus in 2010. A dispute over an unauthorized greatest hits album, Shallow Bay (2011), ended with Burnley keeping the name, and in August 2014 he returned with an all-new lineup: guitarist Jasen Rauch, guitarist and singer Keith Wallen, and bassist and singer Aaron Bruch, with drummer Shaun Foist.
That rebuild changed the live show. Wallen and Bruch were chosen partly for their voices, so the band could reproduce the three-part harmonies and layered vocals from the records on stage. Rauch plays a third guitar part and uses a guitar synthesizer for string and choir sounds. Foist stepped away from touring in 2025 for health reasons and left the band that December. As of May 2026, Brian Medeiros, formerly of Red, was named the touring drummer. In October 2024 the band signed with BMG and released "Awaken", the first single from a seventh album, followed in May 2026 by "Something Wicked".
What a Breaking Benjamin show is like
Expect a loud, guitar-driven set built on the radio singles, with big choruses the audience sings back. The show is about the songs and the sound rather than an elaborate stage production, which matters when you pick seats: being able to hear a good mix counts for more than being able to see every set piece.
- Guest moments are common. The band often brings out singers from co-touring acts, including David Draiman of Disturbed, Adam Gontier of Saint Asonia and Three Days Grace, and Shaun Morgan of Seether, and Burnley sometimes joins the other bands' sets.
- Fans sometimes get pulled on stage to perform with the band.
- Most nights are package bills. On a co-headline tour the two top bands may swap the closing slot, so check the event listing if you are coming mainly for one of them.
Tours and notable performances
The band has spent most of its touring life in North America. Burnley has a long-standing fear of flying, and for years the band rarely played overseas. Selected tours and dates from the cited records:
- 2007: a homecoming concert at Stabler Arena in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, broadcast on HDNet and released as "The Homecoming".
- 2010: the Dark Horse Tour with Nickelback, Shinedown and Sick Puppies, after which the band went on hiatus.
- 2016: first overseas shows, a rock cruise in February and festivals in June including Download in the United Kingdom, Rock am Ring in Germany and Nova Rock in Austria.
- 2019: a North American headline tour with Chevelle and Three Days Grace, July 21 to September 25.
- 2022: a North American co-headline run with Alice in Chains, August to October, with Bush as special guest.
- 2024: an acoustic tour in January, a spring tour with Daughtry, and a fall co-headline tour with Staind.
- 2025: a co-headline US tour with Three Days Grace, August to October.
- 2026: a European tour in June and July, the band's first since 2017, with Burnley traveling by boat; and an announced North American tour for September and October 2026 with Chevelle, Starset and Kami Kehoe.

Where to sit for a Breaking Benjamin concert
Rock package tours of this kind play a mix of venue types, so check the seating map on your event. The same principles apply across them:
- General admission floor or pit (standing room in front of the stage): the choice if you want to be in the crowd for the choruses. Expect to stand for several hours across multiple bands, and expect some movement near the front.
- Reserved seats facing the stage, lower level: the best balance of sound and view. In an arena, the first raised tier straight back from the stage usually hears the cleanest mix because it sits closer to the sound desk (the mixing position on the floor).
- Amphitheater lawn (the grass area behind the reserved seats at an outdoor venue): the low-commitment option for a long bill. Bring a blanket only if the venue allows it, and expect to watch the screens.
- Side sections close to the stage: fine for this show because there is little staging to lose, though the speaker stacks can block part of the view at a sharp angle.
Avoid seats listed as behind the stage or limited view. A guitar show still sounds wrong from behind the speaker stacks.
How ticket demand behaves
Demand for Breaking Benjamin dates depends heavily on the rest of the bill. A pairing with a band of similar size, such as Three Days Grace or Staind, broadens the audience and fills more of the room.
- Presales usually come first. Artist, venue and promoter presales typically run a few days before the general on-sale.
- Weekend dates generally draw more buyers than weeknight shows in the same region.
- Floor and front lower-level seats carry the highest resale demand, while upper-level and lawn tickets are often available close to show day.
- Festival appearances are sold by the festival, not the band, so a single-day festival pass is a different purchase from a headline ticket.
