Who Slightly Stoopid is and what a ticket buys

Slightly Stoopid is a reggae-rock band from Ocean Beach in San Diego, formed in 1994 by childhood friends Miles Doughty and Kyle McDonald with drummer Adam Bausch while they were still in high school. A ticket usually buys a long summer evening at an amphitheater or outdoor stage, with several bands on the bill and Slightly Stoopid closing with an extended, horn-driven set. The band describes its sound as a fusion of folk, rock, reggae and blues with hip-hop, funk, metal and punk.

Bradley Nowell of Sublime heard the band practicing in a garage and signed it to his Skunk Records label while the members were in high school. The group later released music through Surfdog and now runs its own label, Stoopid Records. Its 2012 album Top of the World reached No. 13 on the Billboard 200.

Inside a Slightly Stoopid concert

Doughty and McDonald share lead vocals and trade guitar and bass. The touring lineup adds drummer Ryan Moran, saxophonist Daniel "DeLa" Delacruz, trombonist Andy Geib and keyboardist Paul Wolstencroft, so the sound is fuller than a four-piece rock band. Songs stretch out into jams, reggae grooves and acoustic stretches, which suits a relaxed outdoor crowd more than a seated listening room.

The band's recorded history shows how central touring is: four live releases, including Acoustic Roots: Live & Direct (2001), the Winter Tour '05-'06 CD and DVD, Live in San Diego (2006) and Live at Roberto's TRI Studios (2013). Its studio catalog runs from a self-titled 1996 debut through The Longest Barrel Ride (1998), Closer to the Sun (2005), Chronchitis (2007), Meanwhile...Back at the Lab (2015) and Everyday Life, Everyday People (2018).

Slightly Stoopid's summer tours and tour-mates

The tours below are documented in the sources for this page. Current dates appear in the live event list on this page.

  • Blazed and Confused Tour (2009): co-headlined with Snoop Dogg.
  • Summer Sessions Tour (2014): with G. Love & Special Sauce and Stephen Marley.
  • Summertime Tour (2023): with Sublime with Rome and Atmosphere.
  • Step Into the Sun Summer Tour (2025): with Iration and Little Stranger.

Over the years the band has also toured with Cypress Hill, 311, Atmosphere and Stick Figure. The pattern is consistent: a named summer package with two or three supporting acts from the reggae, rock and hip-hop worlds, routed through outdoor amphitheaters.

Where to sit for a Slightly Stoopid show

Check the seating map on each event, since some stops use reserved seating and others are general admission throughout.

Amphitheaters

  • Pit or front orchestra: the closest view of the horn section and the most active part of the crowd. If the pit is general admission (standing, first come, first served), plan to arrive during the support sets.
  • Center reserved sections: a good choice if you want a guaranteed seat under the roof for a long bill, and the sound is most balanced near the soundboard.
  • Lawn: a natural fit for this band. Much of the audience treats the lawn as the main event, with room to move and dance. Check the venue's chair and blanket rules before you go.

General-admission outdoor stages

At GA-only stops, the crowd near the front is dense and moves. Fans who want space usually settle near the soundboard or toward the sides, where sightlines stay open and the mix is still good.

How demand for Slightly Stoopid tickets moves

Slightly Stoopid has a dedicated touring audience, and the package-bill format spreads demand across fans of every act. A few patterns help:

  • Presales start early. The band uses a signup list for updates and presale access, and venue and promoter presales usually come before the general on-sale.
  • Southern California runs hot. San Diego and nearby dates carry hometown demand.
  • Weekend summer dates sell first. Friday and Saturday shows tend to move ahead of weeknights in the same region.
  • Lawn stays available longer. Big amphitheater lawns often hold inventory close to the show, while pit and front sections go early.

Resale prices can sit above or below face value and usually move as the date approaches. GoodSeats orders include guaranteed entry. Tour news comes from the band's official tour page.
