What Yacht Rock Revue is

Yacht Rock Revue is a ten-piece band from Atlanta that plays yacht rock: the smooth, polished soft rock of the late 1970s and early 1980s associated with Michael McDonald, Steely Dan and Hall & Oates. A ticket buys a full-band show of those hits, with horns, harmonies and a crowd that often dresses for the theme. The band frames its concerts as immersive shows rather than a tribute act, and it plays more than 100 dates a year in theaters, amphitheaters and large clubs.

The group formed in 2007 out of the Atlanta indie rock band Y-O-U. An ironic one-off set of soft rock hits at a local club turned into a weekly residency, and the side project became the main job for its core members.

The band, the music and its own songs

The current lineup lists ten members: Nicholas Niespodziani, Peter Olson, Greg Lee, Mark Dannells, Mark Bencuya, David B. Freeman, Keisha Jackson, Kourtney Jackson, Jason Nackers and Ganesh Giri Jaya, covering vocals, guitars, keyboards, brass and percussion. That size is the point: it lets the band reproduce the layered studio sound of the era on stage.

The band also writes. Its first original single, "Step," arrived in late 2019, followed by the album Hot Dads in Tight Jeans on February 21, 2020. Over the years it has shared the stage with artists from the era itself, including Walter Egan, Robbie Dupree, Bobby Kimball of Toto, Bill Champlin of Chicago and Denny Laine of Wings.

Notable tours and shows, dated

  • Yacht Rock Revival (from 2011): the band's annual Atlanta event began at Andrews Entertainment Complex with about 1,000 fans and drew a sold-out crowd of more than 6,000 at State Bank Amphitheatre in Chastain Park in 2018.
  • Kenny Loggins, "This Is It" tour (2023): the band opened for Loggins on his farewell tour.
  • REO Speedwagon and Train (July to September 2024): opening slots on a summer amphitheater run.
  • Headline theater dates: sold-out shows in Los Angeles, Boston, Atlanta and Washington, DC.

Where to sit or stand for a Yacht Rock Revue show

The band plays three main room types, and the best ticket changes with each. Check the layout on the event's seating map before you buy.

  • Theaters: center orchestra (the main floor) gives the clearest view of a stage crowded with ten musicians. Some theaters pull the front seats for a standing area, which suits this crowd, since many fans dance through the set.
  • Amphitheaters: the reserved seats in the covered pavilion sound and see best. The lawn (general admission grass behind the seats) is the casual, lower-cost option for a summer night, but the stage looks small from the back.
  • Clubs and music halls: usually general admission standing. Stand slightly off center near the soundboard for the best mix.

Side seats close to the stage can lose sight of the horn section or keyboards at the far end, so a straight-on view is worth trading a few rows for.

How demand for Yacht Rock Revue tickets behaves

  • Weekend and summer dates lead. Friday and Saturday shows and summer amphitheater nights draw the most buyers.
  • Group buying is common. Fans often attend in groups and in costume, so blocks of seats together sell earlier than singles.
  • Home-market shows run hot. Atlanta dates, including the Yacht Rock Revival, have a long history of selling out.
  • Floor and front orchestra go first. Standing areas and the closest seated rows sell through before upper levels.

Resale prices can sit above or below face value and usually shift in the final days before a show. Every GoodSeats order is backed by a 100% guarantee.
