Upcoming Stone Temple Pilots dates
Dates and live ticket listings appear here as soon as they are on sale. The guide below covers what to know before you buy.
Who Stone Temple Pilots are today
Stone Temple Pilots (often shortened to STP) are an American rock band formed in San Diego in 1989, and a ticket today buys a hit-heavy rock show from three founding members: guitarist Dean DeLeo, bassist Robert DeLeo and drummer Eric Kretz. Jeff Gutt has sung lead since the band announced him on November 14, 2017. The set leans on the 1990s songs most fans came for, such as "Plush," "Interstate Love Song," "Vasoline," "Big Empty," "Sex Type Thing" and "Wicked Garden."
The band's original singer, Scott Weiland, fronted STP from 1989 until he was fired in February 2013; he died in December 2015. Linkin Park's Chester Bennington sang with the band from May 2013 to November 2015. Gutt, a Michigan singer who was runner-up on season 3 of The X Factor in 2013 and formerly fronted the band Dry Cell, was chosen after an open online audition the band launched in 2016. Knowing the lineup matters when you buy: this is the DeLeo-Kretz band with a newer voice, not a Weiland-era reunion.
The records behind the set list
STP was one of the most commercially successful rock bands of the 1990s, credited with 17.5 million albums sold in the US and 40 million worldwide that decade. The catalog the live show draws on:
- Core (1992): peaked at number 3 on the Billboard 200 and is certified 8x platinum (eight million units) by the RIAA. "Plush" won the Grammy for Best Hard Rock Performance in March 1994.
- Purple (1994): debuted at number 1; "Interstate Love Song" spent a record fifteen weeks atop the album rock tracks chart.
- Tiny Music... Songs from the Vatican Gift Shop (1996) and No. 4 (1999): the glam-leaning third record and the harder fourth, which produced "Sour Girl" and went platinum.
- Shangri-La Dee Da (2001) and Stone Temple Pilots (2010): the last Weiland-era albums; the 2010 record debuted at number 2.
- Stone Temple Pilots (2018) and Perdida (2020): the Gutt-era albums, the second an acoustic record made largely on vintage instruments.
Across its career the band has logged 16 top-ten singles on the Billboard rock charts, eight of them number 1s, which is why a set rarely feels padded.
Notable tours, dated
The tours below are documented in this page's sources. The live event list on this page shows any current dates.
- Reunion tour (2008): after splitting in 2003, the band announced a 65-date North American reunion tour in May 2008, which ran through Halloween 2008.
- Co-headline tour with Bush and the Cult (mid-2018): the first major run after the second self-titled album.
- Jubilee Tour with Live (August 16 to September 15, 2024): a 19-city co-headline run produced by Live Nation, celebrating the 30th anniversaries of Purple and Live's Throwing Copper. Soul Asylum supported most dates and Our Lady Peace the first two. The routing was almost entirely amphitheaters, among them the Toyota Pavilion at Concord, Dos Equis Pavilion in Dallas, Jiffy Lube Live in Bristow, Virginia, and Blossom Music Center in Ohio, plus the YouTube Theater in Inglewood. The two bands traded the closing slot city by city.
That pattern is typical: STP most often tours as one half of a 1990s rock double bill in outdoor amphitheaters during the summer with indoor theater dates filling other parts of the calendar.
Where to sit at a Stone Temple Pilots show
Because most STP dates are in amphitheaters (open-air venues with a covered reserved pavilion and a general-admission lawn behind it), the seating choice comes down to three zones.
Amphitheaters
- Front reserved sections or the pit: the closest look at Dean DeLeo's guitar work and the band's interplay. Some venues sell the first area as a standing pit; the listing will say.
- Rear pavilion seats under the roof: covered, centered and often near the soundboard, which is where the mix is cleanest. A strong middle choice if rain is in the forecast.
- The lawn: the value pick, general admission on a slope. Arrive early for a spot near center, and expect to watch much of the show on the video screens.
Theaters
- Center orchestra, rows 10 to 25: close enough to see faces, far enough back for balanced sound.
- Front of the first balcony: often the best overall view in a tiered theater, and usually cheaper than the front orchestra.
Avoid seats marked side view or partial view in the first few pavilion sections; speaker stacks and lighting towers block part of the stage there.
How demand for STP tickets behaves
A legacy rock co-bill follows a predictable curve.
- Front sections go first. Longtime fans buy close reserved seats early, so those hold their value on resale.
- The lawn goes last. Lawn and rear pavilion seats often remain through show week, and resale prices for them can soften as the date approaches.
- Co-headliners widen the crowd. On a shared bill such as the 2024 Jubilee Tour, fans of both bands compete for the same seats, which lifts demand in big markets. Check which band closes your date if one matters more to you.
- Presales and VIP packages come first. For the Jubilee Tour, limited VIP packages with a meet and greet, a photo and early entry were sold through the band's site alongside the general on-sale, which started on a Friday morning at 10 a.m. local time.
Every GoodSeats order is backed by a 100% guarantee, so buying on the secondary market for a sold-out date carries less risk.
What to expect on the night
Expect a set built on the Core and Purple material, with a few later songs mixed in. On anniversary-themed tours the band has leaned harder into one album, as it did with Purple in 2024 and with a 2020 livestream of the full album. On a co-headline bill each band plays a full set, so the evening runs long; if the band you want is listed second on your date, there is no need to arrive for the first support act.
Outdoor dates run rain or shine, and amphitheater bag, chair and blanket rules vary by venue and change from season to season. Check the venue's current policy before you go. Tour announcements and VIP information appear first on the band's official site at stonetemplepilots.com.
