Who Turnpike Troubadours are
Turnpike Troubadours are a red dirt country band from Tahlequah, Oklahoma, formed in 2005 by Evan Felker, the band's singer, and R.C. Edwards. Red dirt is the Oklahoma and Texas strain of country that mixes honky-tonk, Americana and rock, built for dance halls more than radio. The band's fan base grew mostly through touring and word of mouth, and their tickets are now hard to get for that reason: the people who want them really want them.
The current lineup is Evan Felker, RC Edwards, Kyle Nix, Ryan Engleman, Gabriel Pearson and Hank Early. Their albums are Bossier City (2007), Diamonds & Gasoline (2010), Goodbye Normal Street (2012), The Turnpike Troubadours (2015), A Long Way from Your Heart (2017), A Cat in the Rain (2023) and The Price of Admission (2025).
The hiatus and the comeback
The band's recent history explains the demand. In late 2018 they canceled a dozen shows, and in 2019 they canceled all remaining dates and went on hiatus. They reunited in November 2021, announced the return in January 2022, and played their first shows back on April 8 and 9, 2022, at Cain's Ballroom in Tulsa, followed by two nights at Red Rocks Amphitheatre on May 14 and 15, 2022.
A Cat in the Rain, produced by Shooter Jennings and released August 25, 2023, reached No. 9 on the US country albums chart and No. 34 on the Billboard 200, the first new music after the break. The Price of Admission, also produced by Jennings, arrived as a surprise on April 11, 2025.
What their concerts are like
A Turnpike show is a six-piece band playing a catalog the crowd knows line for line. The draw is the songs rather than the production, so the experience rides on the room and the people in it. Fans often treat a show as a reunion with friends, and the front of a standing floor gets crowded and loud.
They play a wide range of rooms. Historic ballrooms such as Cain's, outdoor amphitheaters such as Red Rocks, and occasional stadium-scale events all show up in their history. In April 2025 they were on the bill for the Boys from Oklahoma reunion concerts with Cross Canadian Ragweed at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater, where a second night was added on presale demand and about 180,764 tickets were reported sold for the weekend.
Standing room or a seat: choosing your ticket
Because the band plays such different rooms, read the event's seating map before you buy. The common setups break down like this:
- General admission ballrooms and halls: no assigned seats on the floor. Arrive early if you want to be near the stage; arrive later and stand toward the back or near the bar if you want room to move. If a balcony is offered, it trades closeness for a clear view over the crowd.
- Amphitheaters: reserved sections up front and often a lawn or upper rows farther back. Center sections give the best sound balance. At a steep venue like Red Rocks, higher rows still see well, but the climb is real.
- Stadium and festival-style events: the floor is flat and crowded, and the band may be one of several acts. Lower-level seats near the stage end offer a reliable view and somewhere to sit between sets.
For a band show with modest staging, closer matters more than at a pop production, so favor a nearer section over a more central but distant one.
How Turnpike tickets sell
Demand has outrun supply since the comeback. Much of their touring is in ballrooms and amphitheaters rather than arenas, so there are fewer tickets per show than their following would suggest.
- Home-region dates draw the hardest demand. Shows in Oklahoma and Texas, and special events like the Stillwater concerts, tend to sell fastest.
- Presales take much of the first wave. Fan-list and venue presales often go before the general on-sale.
- Multi-night stands spread demand. When a venue adds a second or third night, the later-announced show can be the easier ticket.
- Resale is common. On the secondary market, prices can run above face value at first and may move as the date nears, but popular weekend shows do not always soften.

Tips for the show
General admission doors often mean a line, so plan your arrival around how close you want to be. Outdoor amphitheater shows depend on weather; bring layers for a mountain venue like Red Rocks. Bag rules and re-entry policies are set by each venue and change; as of 2026, many venues restrict bag size, so check the venue's current policy before you go.
