Who Carrie Underwood is

Carrie Underwood is a country singer who headlines arenas and festivals, known for a powerhouse voice and large-scale stage productions. She was born on March 10, 1983, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, and raised on her family's farm in nearby Checotah. She won the fourth season of American Idol in 2005, and her debut single, "Inside Your Heaven," made her the first country artist to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Her debut album, Some Hearts (2005), became the best-selling debut by a solo female country artist. She has won eight Grammy Awards, starting with Best New Artist in 2007, and she was named the Academy of Country Music's Entertainer of the Year in 2009 and 2010. Garth Brooks inducted her into the Grand Ole Opry on May 10, 2008. Television viewers also know her from the NBC Sunday Night Football opening song, which she has performed since 2013, and she has been a judge on American Idol since 2025.

What her concerts are like

Underwood treats a concert as a production. In her own words about the Denim & Rhinestones Tour, "I've always enjoyed the idea of having a show versus just playing a concert." Expect costume changes, hydraulic lifts and moving stage pieces, and a set built to showcase her voice. Many shows sit somewhere between a country concert and a pop spectacle.

Headline tours have played arenas such as Madison Square Garden, Chase Center and American Airlines Center, while recent years added festivals, casino theaters and frequent Grand Ole Opry appearances.

Tours and the Las Vegas residency, dated

  • Carnival Ride Tour (2008), Play On Tour (2010–2011) and Blown Away Tour (2012–2013): her early arena headlining runs.
  • Storyteller Tour: Stories in the Round (January 30 to November 28, 2016): 92 shows, her first tour with the stage in the center of the arena, using a rotating, multi-tier lighting rig.
  • Cry Pretty Tour 360 (May 1 to October 31, 2019): 60 arena shows in North America and Europe, again in the round, with Maddie & Tae and Runaway June opening in North America.
  • Reflection: The Las Vegas Residency (2021–2025): at The Theatre at Resorts World Las Vegas, with final listed dates in March and April 2025.
  • Denim & Rhinestones Tour (October 15, 2022, to March 17, 2023): 43 US arena shows on an end stage with three hydraulic lifts and ramps, with Jimmie Allen opening.

Her 2025 and 2026 calendars were built around Opry nights, festivals and one-off headline dates rather than a full tour. Her official site lists her as the first headliner announced for the Barefoot Country Music Festival in 2027. Any scheduled dates appear in the live event list on this page.

Where to sit: in the round versus end stage

Her stage layout changes the advice, so check the event map.

In-the-round shows

On the Storyteller and Cry Pretty 360 tours, the stage sat in the middle of the arena floor (in the round, meaning the audience surrounds the stage on all sides).

  • Lower-bowl sideline sections: the best seats, close and raised, with no back of the stage.
  • End sections: worth considering in the round because they face the stage directly and are often priced below the sidelines.
  • Floor: very close at the front, but flat; the stage rotates and moves, so you will see her back at times.

End-stage shows

On the Denim & Rhinestones Tour, the stage returned to one end of the arena.

  • Lower-bowl sections facing the stage: the strongest overall view of the full production, including the lifts and ramps.
  • Front floor: closest to her, but rear floor rows depend on the screens.
  • Sections beside or behind the stage: avoid, or buy only when clearly marked as limited view.

At festivals and fairs, general admission is usually first come, first served, so arrival time matters more than the ticket.

How demand for her tickets behaves

Underwood has fewer headline dates than in her full-tour years, and that scarcity concentrates demand. What to expect:

  • Headline arena dates draw the most interest, especially weekend shows in the South and Midwest.
  • Fan-club and venue presales usually take the best lower-bowl seats before the general sale.
  • Festival tickets behave differently. You are buying the whole lineup, so price and availability depend on the festival, not on her alone.
  • Opry appearances are shared bills at the Grand Ole Opry House, with several artists on the same night.
