Who Ed Sheeran is and what his stadium show looks like

Ed Sheeran is an English singer-songwriter who plays football stadiums in the United States, and much of the show rests on one person: Sheeran with an acoustic guitar and a loop pedal (a foot-controlled device that records a phrase and replays it so he can layer guitar, percussion and harmonies live). Critic Alexis Petridis summed up his approach as "one unassuming man, his guitar and a loop pedal." On the 2026 Loop Tour, he adds a band for part of the set and a B-stage (a smaller second stage out in the crowd) for intimate songs.

Born February 17, 1991, in Halifax, West Yorkshire, and raised in Framlingham, Suffolk, he began writing songs around age 11 and signed with Asylum Records in 2011. He named his albums after math symbols, and that run is the core of his set list.

The albums and hits behind the tours

  • + (2011): topped the UK albums chart and featured "The A Team."
  • × (2014): the second-best-selling album worldwide of 2015. Its single "Thinking Out Loud" won two Grammys, including Song of the Year.
  • ÷ (2017): the best-selling album worldwide of 2017, with "Shape of You," "Castle on the Hill" and "Perfect," which reached number one in the US, UK and Australia. He was named the world's best-selling artist of 2017.
  • Later albums: No.6 Collaborations Project (2019), = (2021), − (2023), Autumn Variations (2023) and Play (2025).

Record-setting tours, dated

  • ÷ Tour (March 16, 2017 to August 26, 2019): 260 shows on six continents and 8.9 million tickets. Billboard reported it as the highest-grossing tour of all time when it ended, passing U2's 360° Tour, even though Sheeran kept ticket prices relatively low. It closed with four homecoming shows in Ipswich.
  • +–=÷× (Mathematics) Tour (April 23, 2022 to September 7, 2025): 188 shows and about 8.8 million tickets. Its North American legs ran in 2023 and 2024, including a SoFi Stadium show that set that stadium's single-day attendance record at more than 81,000, and a guest appearance by Eminem in Detroit on July 15, 2023.
  • Loop Tour (2026): began January 16, 2026, in Auckland, supporting Play. Its 27-date North American leg opened June 13, 2026, at State Farm Stadium in Glendale and is mostly NFL stadiums, such as Nissan Stadium, Soldier Field, SoFi Stadium, MetLife Stadium and AT&T Stadium, plus Petco Park, three nights at the Blue Jays' downtown ballpark in Toronto and two nights at Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida. Two Gillette Stadium shows in September 2026 were canceled because of a nor'easter.

Best seats for an Ed Sheeran stadium concert

Because the show centers on one performer, distance matters more than at a band show. Pick a seat that keeps the stage and the screens in clear view.

  • Field seats near the main stage are the closest view of his guitar and loop work. The field is flat, so rows far back on the floor can see less than a lower-deck seat.
  • Seats near the B-stage can put you within a few rows of him for the stripped-down segment; the stage plan varies by stadium, so check the venue's seating map for your date.
  • Lower-deck sideline seats (the 100-level sections along the long sides) are the best overall value: raised, angled toward the stage and close to the screens.
  • Upper-deck seats facing the stage show the full production at a distance; sound in open bowls can lag or echo.
  • Avoid seats beside or behind the main stage unless they are sold as side-view; production gear and screens can block sightlines.

How demand for his tickets behaves

Sheeran's stadium dates are announced well in advance: the Loop Tour's North American leg was announced September 18, 2025, nearly nine months before its June 2026 opener. That long runway shapes the market.

  • Onsales vary by market. His official site links to different ticket sellers by market, including Ticketmaster and SeatGeek, and promoters often run artist and venue presales before the general sale.
  • Weekend dates and big cities draw the most demand; multi-night stands, like Toronto's three nights in 2026, spread demand out.
  • Field and lower-deck seats hold value; upper-deck seats usually remain available close to the show.
  • Weather can change plans. Outdoor stadium shows can be postponed or canceled, as the 2026 Gillette Stadium dates were.

Tips for show day

  • Request a song. On the Loop Tour, a pre-show QR code on the screens lets fans request songs, and he works some requests into the set.
  • Check the stadium bag policy. Most NFL stadiums enforce a clear-bag policy (bags must be clear plastic, vinyl or PVC, roughly 12 by 6 by 12 inches). Confirm the current rules for your venue.
  • Plan transit early. Stadium exits are slow; rail or shuttle options often beat parking.
  • Confirm dates. Current shows are listed on edsheeran.com and in the live event list on this page.
