Dates and live ticket listings appear here as soon as they are on sale. The guide below covers what to know before you buy.

What Boston Calling is, and why there was no 2026 festival

Boston Calling is a three-day music festival held in Boston, Massachusetts, at the Harvard Athletic Complex in the Allston neighborhood. It did not take place in 2026: on June 20, 2025, organizers announced a one-year hiatus and set the next edition for June 4–6, 2027. As of October 2026, the festival's site shows those 2027 dates but no lineup.

The organizers did not give a reason for the pause. Days after the announcement, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu said in a radio interview that the organizers expected other events in 2026, including the nation's 250th anniversary celebrations and FIFA World Cup matches at Gillette Stadium, to put a lot of strain on hotel rooms, events and sponsorships.

The 2027 dates also mark a calendar change. From 2016 through 2025 the festival ran annually in the second half of May; the 2027 edition moves into early June.

From City Hall Plaza to Allston: a short history

Boston Calling was created by Brian Appel and Mike Snow, former colleagues at the alternative rock station WFNX. When the station stopped broadcasting in 2012, they kept developing the idea, with a goal of putting a major festival inside city limits and within reach of the T. The name was inspired by the Clash album London Calling, and Aaron Dessner of The National helped curate early lineups.

  • 2013: the first edition, a two-day show over Memorial Day weekend at City Hall Plaza, sold out early. It was the first major event in the city after the Boston Marathon bombing.
  • 2013 to 2015: the festival ran twice a year, in May and September, growing from two days to three.
  • 2016: the Madison Square Garden Company bought a controlling interest, and the festival moved to a single annual edition in late May.
  • 2017: it moved to the Harvard Athletic Complex, adding stages and non-music performers. Attendance reached roughly 40,000, up from about 20,000 to 22,000 at the earlier editions.
  • 2020 and 2021: canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • By 2023: the festival was part of Live Nation Entertainment.

Headliners by year

Boston Calling books a broad mix of rock, indie, hip-hop, pop and country, with three nights of headliners. Recent editions:

  • 2018: Eminem, The Killers and Jack White.
  • 2019: Twenty One Pilots, Travis Scott and Tame Impala.
  • 2022: Metallica, plus Nine Inch Nails on two nights after Foo Fighters and The Strokes canceled.
  • 2023: Foo Fighters, in their first major show after the death of drummer Taylor Hawkins, plus The Lumineers and Paramore.
  • 2024: Ed Sheeran, Tyler Childers and The Killers, with Leon Bridges, Trey Anastasio and Hozier as co-headliners.
  • 2025: Luke Combs, Fall Out Boy and Dave Matthews Band, with Megan Moroney, Avril Lavigne and Vampire Weekend as co-headliners.

Earlier bills included The National, Kendrick Lamar, Vampire Weekend, Of Monsters and Men, Sia and Beck. The 2027 lineup had not been announced as of October 2026; the lineup reveal has historically arrived months ahead of the festival and is the moment demand jumps.

Ticket tiers and how demand behaves

The 2027 tier details have not been published yet. For the 2025 festival, Boston Calling sold:

  • Single-day and three-day passes in four tiers: General Admission, GA+ (General Plus), VIP and Platinum.
  • A two-day General Admission pass.
  • Discounted single- and three-day GA for students, military, first responders, medical staff and educators.
  • Payment plans at checkout.

Demand usually concentrates on the day with the biggest headliner. That was clear in 2024, when Sunday attendance was estimated at about 40,000, compared with about 16,000 the day before. A lighter day can be the better experience as well as the easier ticket. Upgraded tiers matter most on the busiest day, when moving between stages and reaching restrooms is hardest.

Getting to the Harvard Athletic Complex

The festival was designed to be reached by public transit, and driving is the worst option. There is no on-site parking, no street parking in the surrounding neighborhoods, and city officials enforce ticketing and towing strictly.

  • Red Line: take the T to Harvard Square station. The main entrance at 65 N. Harvard Street in Allston is about a 10-minute walk away.
  • Bus: MBTA routes 66 and 86 stop near Harvard Stadium.
  • Commuter rail: Boston Landing station is about a mile away.
  • Rideshare: set your drop-off for 65 N. Harvard Street and get out on N. Harvard Street, not Soldiers Field Road, where no-stopping rules are enforced.
  • Bike: bicycle parking has been available on site.

For hotels, restaurants and other events during your stay, see the Boston city guide. Out-of-town visitors who want a game during the trip can look at the Boston Red Sox schedule at Fenway Park or arena events at TD Garden.

Bag rules, kids policy and on-site changes

The policies below are from the 2025 festival and may change for 2027; check the current rules on the official Boston Calling site before you go.

  • Bags: small clutches or fanny packs with one pocket, 6 by 9 inches or smaller, were allowed. Larger bags had to be clear and no bigger than 12 by 6 by 12 inches.
  • Prohibited items: coolers, weapons, professional cameras, drones, tobacco products, strollers, chairs, blankets, umbrellas, glass and pets other than service animals.
  • Kids: children under 10 got in free without a wristband.

The festival has adjusted its layout after crowd problems. The 2024 edition drew criticism for overcrowding as fans moved between stages, and organizers promised a better environment. In 2025 they replaced the separate Red and Green stages with a single rotating main stage, added water stations, and reopened the on-site indoor arena, with air conditioning and jazz sets from Berklee College of Music performers. Whether those changes carry into 2027 has not been announced.
