Florence and the Machine, in brief
Florence and the Machine (styled Florence + the Machine) is an English indie rock band formed in London in 2007 and fronted by singer and songwriter Florence Welch, and in North America it tours arenas with a theatrical, choreographed show built around her voice. In Europe the band also headlines major festivals, so its North American arena runs are the main chance for US fans to see the full production.
The debut album Lungs (2009) reached number one in the UK after 28 weeks on the chart and won the Brit Award for Best British Album in 2010. Ceremonials (2011) followed, then How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful (2015), the band's first number one on the US Billboard 200. That year the band headlined Glastonbury Festival. High as Hope (2018), Dance Fever (2022) and Everybody Scream (released October 31, 2025) complete the six studio albums. The band has received six Grammy nominations, including Best New Artist.
The sound mixes indie and alternative rock with baroque pop (pop arranged with orchestral and classical touches), and the harp, played by founding member Tom Monger, is a signature of the live band.
What the live show is like
Welch performs barefoot and spends much of the night running and dancing across the stage, while the band often stays in the shadows. Expect a loud singalong on songs like "Dog Days Are Over", "Shake It Out" and "You've Got the Love".
The 2026 Everybody Scream Tour added a stronger theatrical frame. The show opens behind a curtain painted with medicinal herbs, and Welch is joined by the Witch Choir, four women who act as singers and dancers in folk-horror-inspired choreography by Ryan Heffington. The arrangements shift between the full band and stripped-down passages of drums and synths, acoustic guitar or harp. A reviewer for The Independent called it less a concert than a communal ceremony.
The 2023 London arena set on the Dance Fever Tour ran 23 songs, mixing new material with earlier hits such as "Cosmic Love", "Kiss with a Fist" and "Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)". Festival sets are shorter.
Recent tours, dated
- Earlier milestones: the first official New York show was at the Bowery Ballroom on October 27, 2009. The band opened for U2 on the North American leg of the U2 360 Tour in June and July 2011, and closed the High as Hope Tour at the Acropolis in Athens on September 29, 2019.
- Dance Fever Tour (April 15, 2022, to September 2, 2023): seven legs across Europe, North America, Oceania and South America. The fall 2022 North American leg mixed arenas such as Madison Square Garden (two nights, September 16 and 17), TD Garden, Capital One Arena, Moody Center and Ball Arena with amphitheaters such as Pine Knob Music Theatre and Ascend Amphitheater.
- Everybody Scream Tour (February 6 to August 30, 2026): 48 shows. The North American leg ran April 8 to May 20, 2026, entirely in arenas, including Madison Square Garden (April 21 and 22), Barclays Center, TD Garden, Capital One Arena, Scotiabank Arena, State Farm Arena, Bridgestone Arena, Moody Center, Toyota Center in Houston, Climate Pledge Arena, Moda Center, Chase Center and two nights at the Kia Forum in Inglewood. A Philadelphia date was moved to Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City because of a hockey playoff scheduling conflict. Openers rotated among Rachel Chinouriri, Sofia Isella, CMAT and Mannequin Pussy.
As of October 2026, no new North American dates had been announced in the sources reviewed. Any scheduled shows appear in the live event list on this page.
Where to sit at a Florence and the Machine arena show
The band uses an end-stage setup in arenas (the stage at one end, the audience facing it). Seating maps differ by building and tour, so check the map on your event before you buy.
- General admission floor: the closest you can get, and the best place to feel the energy of the room. The floor is flat, so shorter fans further back see mainly the screens.
- Lower-bowl sections facing the stage: the best overall view of a show built on choreography, lighting and staging. You see the Witch Choir's movement as a whole rather than in pieces.
- Lower-bowl sides near the stage: close, but the curtain and set pieces can block part of the stage at sharp angles. Sections a little back from the stage edge are the better side choice.
- Upper level, center: the value pick. Her voice carries well in arenas, and from above the staging reads clearly.
For amphitheater dates, the center reserved pavilion is the strongest choice and the lawn is the budget option.
How Florence and the Machine tickets sell
The band plays a limited number of North American arena dates per tour, so demand concentrates in the biggest markets.
- Presales come first. For the Everybody Scream Tour, North American presales opened on November 3, 2025, two days before the general on-sale on November 5. Fan and card-member presales typically take many of the best floor and lower-bowl seats.
- Multi-night cities draw the most demand. New York and Los Angeles each received two nights in 2026, and weekend nights usually sell first.
- Resale fills the gap. On the secondary market, GA floor and center lower-bowl seats tend to carry the highest prices, while upper-level seats move with demand as show day approaches.
