Metallica Tickets

In-the-round stadium stage · Snake Pit at center · Sphere residency

Metallica now plays stadiums in the round with the Snake Pit at the center, which changes the usual rules about where the good seats are.

Upcoming Metallica dates

Dates and live ticket listings appear here as soon as they are on sale. The guide below covers what to know before you buy.

Who Metallica is and what kind of ticket you are buying

Metallica is the American heavy metal band formed in Los Angeles in 1981 by singer and rhythm guitarist James Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich, with lead guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Robert Trujillo completing the current lineup. In the current touring cycle, a Metallica ticket means one of two things: a stadium show with the stage in the center of the field, or a seat at Sphere in Las Vegas for the band's residency there. Both formats behave very differently, so the right seat depends on which one you are buying.

The catalog behind the shows runs from Kill 'Em All (1983), Ride the Lightning (1984) and Master of Puppets (1986) through the self-titled 1991 record known as the Black Album, certified 16 times platinum in the US, to Hardwired... to Self-Destruct (2016) and 72 Seasons (2023). The band reports more than 163 million albums sold worldwide, has won 10 Grammy Awards and entered the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009. In December 2013, it became the first band to play all seven continents with a show in Antarctica.

The M72 stage: in the round with the Snake Pit in the middle

For the M72 World Tour, Metallica moved its stage to the center of the stadium floor. The band's own tour help pages say the stage sits in the center of the field for headlining stadium dates (festivals, one-off events and the Sphere residency are excepted) and that fans can see the band from any point in the stadium. Inside that stage is the Snake Pit, a standing-only fan area surrounded by the stage itself, which the band describes as the closest place to see it play.

An in-the-round layout (a stage with audience on all sides) removes the idea of a bad end of the building. There is no seat directly behind the stage, because there is no behind. The trade-off is distance: the stage is roughly at midfield, so lower-level seats along the sidelines are much closer to the action than seats at the very ends of the stadium.

Many M72 stops have used the No Repeat Weekend format: two shows in the same city, two nights apart, with completely different set lists, so a fan attending both nights hears two distinct shows. The band's help pages state that every stop on the 2027 North American leg is a one-night-only show instead.

Notable tours, dated

The dates and figures below come from the tour records listed in this page's sources.

  • WorldWired Tour (February 2016 to August 2019): 159 shows across Asia, Europe and the Americas, with reported attendance of 4.1 million across 139 shows.
  • M72 World Tour (from April 27, 2023): opened in Amsterdam in support of 72 Seasons and has run across Europe, North America, Mexico and Oceania, mostly in stadiums. Pollstar named it Rock Tour of the Year in 2024 and again in 2026. The August 2023 shows in Arlington, Texas, were filmed and screened in cinemas, and the May 7, 2025 show at Virginia Tech's Lane Stadium produced crowd movement during "Enter Sandman" that the university's seismological observatory recorded. As listed in fall 2026, the tour's final leg is a 12-date North American stadium run in May and June 2027 ending in Salt Lake City.
  • Life Burns Faster at Sphere (October 2026 to March 2027): a 24-show residency in the Las Vegas Valley, announced in February 2026 with eight dates and expanded twice within weeks because of demand. It uses the No Repeat Weekend format, with paired shows carrying different set lists.

Where to sit at a Metallica stadium show

Because the stage sits at midfield, the usual end-stage advice flips. Check the seating map attached to each event, but these rules hold for the in-the-round layout:

  • Snake Pit: standing tickets inside the stage. It is the closest you can get and part of the show, but it is a crowd experience, not a viewing seat. Expect to stand for the full set and to watch players pass in front of you rather than hold one view.
  • Floor around the stage: usually standing general admission. Close, loud and flat, so the view depends on your height and on how near the rail you get.
  • Lower-level sideline seats: the strongest reserved seats for this tour. Sideline sections sit closest to a midfield stage and have enough height to see over the floor crowd and into the stage.
  • Lower-level end zone seats: farther from the stage than the sidelines but still a straight view across the floor. A fair middle option.
  • Upper level: the value tier. Upper sideline seats see the whole round stage and the production clearly; upper end zone corners are the most distant seats in the building.

One caution: at stadiums with lower-bowl overhangs, the back rows of the lower level can lose the top of the video screens. Rows near the front of an upper level can be a better view than the last rows under an overhang.

Where to sit for the Sphere residency

Sphere is a different room entirely. It seats about 17,600 under a wraparound LED screen, and Metallica's help pages note that the in-the-round setup does not apply there. Much of the room's visual production plays across the dome above and around the audience. In general, seats in the center of the second level give the most complete view of both the band and the screen, while the back rows of the lowest level sit under an overhang that cuts off the top of the screen. The upper levels see the full screen but are far from the stage itself. See the band's tour page for the residency calendar; as listed when this page was written, the residency dates were shown as sold out at face value, which means resale is the main way in.

How demand for Metallica tickets behaves

Metallica's ticketing has a clear structure, and knowing it helps you time a purchase.

  • The fan club goes first. Members of the band's fan club, the Fifth Member club, get a presale before the general on-sale, and the band publishes per-city ticket limits. Much of the best inventory in the Snake Pit and lower sidelines moves in that window.
  • Two-night stops split demand. On No Repeat Weekend stops, the band has sold two-day tickets before single-show tickets, as it did when the M72 tour first went on sale in December 2022. Fans committed to both nights buy first, which can tighten supply for single nights.
  • One-night stops concentrate it. The 2027 North American dates are single shows, so each city has one chance and demand gathers on that night.
  • Packages sit above the regular tiers. The band sells enhanced experience and hotel packages separately from standard tickets.

Resale prices on the secondary market can sit above or below face value and tend to move as a show date approaches. Every order on GoodSeats is backed by a 100% guarantee. For the band's ticketing rules in full, see the Metallica tour help pages.

Frequently asked questions

Is Metallica playing in the round?

Yes, on headlining stadium dates of the M72 World Tour the stage is in the center of the field, with the Snake Pit inside it. The band notes that festivals, special events and the Sphere residency do not use the in-the-round setup.

What is the Metallica Snake Pit?

The Snake Pit is a standing-only fan area inside the stage. It puts fans closest to the band and makes them part of the show, but every ticket there is a standing ticket.

What is a No Repeat Weekend?

It is a two-night stop where Metallica plays two shows with entirely different set lists. The band states that its 2027 North American stops are one-night-only shows instead.

Where is Metallica's Las Vegas residency?

Life Burns Faster is a 24-show residency at Sphere in the Las Vegas Valley, scheduled from October 1, 2026 to March 13, 2027.

What are the best seats for a Metallica stadium concert?

Lower-level sideline seats are the best all-around choice because the stage sits at midfield. The Snake Pit and floor are closest but standing, and upper sideline seats are the value pick.
