Who Guns N' Roses is and what you are buying
Guns N' Roses is the hard rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1985. Its classic lineup, set in June 1985, was Axl Rose (vocals), Slash (lead guitar), Izzy Stradlin (rhythm guitar), Duff McKagan (bass) and Steven Adler (drums). A ticket today buys a stadium-scale rock show with Rose, Slash and McKagan back together, playing the songs from Appetite for Destruction and Use Your Illusion that made the band one of the biggest acts in rock.
Appetite for Destruction (July 21, 1987) has sold more than 30 million copies worldwide and 18 million in the US, the best-selling debut album in US history. The band has sold more than 100 million records overall and entered the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012.
The lineup and the songs you will hear
Slash and Duff McKagan rejoined Axl Rose in 2016 after years apart, and the three have toured together since. The current lineup, per the band's Wikipedia entry, adds Richard Fortus (rhythm guitar), Dizzy Reed and Melissa Reese (keyboards) and Isaac Carpenter (drums). Carpenter followed Frank Ferrer, whose amicable departure after nearly two decades was announced on March 19, 2025.
The set leans on the catalog fans know best:
- Appetite for Destruction (1987): "Welcome to the Jungle," "Sweet Child o' Mine," "Paradise City" and "It's So Easy."
- G N' R Lies (1988): "Patience."
- Use Your Illusion I and II (1991): "November Rain," "Civil War" and "You Could Be Mine."
- Chinese Democracy (2008): a few tracks from the album Rose made with a different lineup.
On the Not in This Lifetime tour, the band opened with "It's So Easy" and kept the set focused on full-band songs rather than long solo spots. Guns N' Roses sets are long by stadium standards, so plan for a late finish and check transit schedules before the show.
Touring history, dated
The tours below are documented in the sources for this page. Current dates appear in the live event list.
- Use Your Illusion Tour (January 20, 1991 to July 17, 1993): 192 shows in 27 countries before more than 7 million fans. The tour was also notorious: the July 2, 1991, show at Riverport Amphitheater near St. Louis ended in a riot after Rose left the stage, and a 1992 co-headline stadium show with Metallica in Montreal ended early and led to another riot.
- Not in This Lifetime... Tour (April 1, 2016 to November 2, 2019): the reunion tour with Slash and McKagan, 175 shows over 11 legs on six continents. It drew 5,371,891 fans across the 158 shows with reported box-office figures and ranked as the fourth-highest-grossing concert tour of all time. It began with an unannounced club show at the Troubadour in West Hollywood.
- 2026: the band's official tour page lists an Asia, Australia and New Zealand run for winter 2026.
The 1990s stories are history, not a forecast. The reunion-era tours played large venues on six continents with that reputation behind them.
Where to sit at a Guns N' Roses stadium show
Guns N' Roses stadium shows use an end-stage layout (the stage at one end of the field, with seats behind it closed or sold as limited view). Check the seating map on each event listing, since arena dates and festival appearances are laid out differently.
- Front of the field: closest to the stage and the most intense part of the crowd. Stadium floors are flat, so beyond the first sections you will watch much of the show on the video screens.
- Lower-level seats along the sides near the stage: the strongest reserved seats. They are raised, close and angled across the stage, so you can follow Slash on one side and McKagan on the other.
- Lower-level seats facing the stage: farther back but square to the whole stage and the screens, often near the soundboard where the mix is set.
- Upper level: the value tier. Front rows near center beat the high corners, and the long set makes a comfortable seat more valuable than it is at a 90-minute show.
Avoid sections at a sharp angle beside the stage unless the listing describes the view; speaker towers and screen structures can block part of it. In a stadium with a large overhang, the back rows of the lower level can lose the top of the screens.
How demand for Guns N' Roses tickets behaves
Demand for Guns N' Roses rests on a multigenerational audience: fans who saw the band in the late 1980s, their children and rock fans who never saw the classic members together before 2016.
- Presales lead the on-sale. Fan, promoter and venue presales usually come before the general public sale, and the best floor and lower-level seats are often claimed there.
- Big cities and weekends draw most. Stadium dates in the largest markets and Saturday shows usually see the strongest early demand.
- Big venues mean more supply. A stadium holds tens of thousands of seats, so upper-level tickets for a date that has not sold out often soften in the last week, while the field and center lower level tend to hold.
- International legs pull travelers. Fans often travel for shows in regions the band visits less often, which can lift demand in those markets.
