The Vikings' indoor stadium in Downtown East

U.S. Bank Stadium is the home of the Minnesota Vikings, a fixed-roof stadium of about 66,200 seats, expandable to 73,000, on the site of the old Metrodome in the Downtown East neighborhood of Minneapolis. It opened on July 22, 2016. Sources differ slightly on the standard figure: Wikipedia's infobox lists 66,202, and its article text cites about 66,860 as the usual capacity.

Because the building is enclosed and heated, a December game in Minneapolis is a shirtsleeves event inside. The roof is mostly ETFE, a translucent plastic film, so the bowl gets daylight without the weather.

  • Vikings football: the NFL season runs from September into early January, with the preseason in August.
  • College baseball and softball: the Minnesota Golden Gophers use the stadium as a tenant.
  • Concerts and major events: stadium tours, plus past events such as Super Bowl LII, the 2019 NCAA Men's Final Four and the X Games.

U.S. Bank Stadium seating chart: levels and sidelines

The bowl has three main seating levels, numbered by the hundreds: the 100 level closest to the field, the 200 level in the middle with most of the club seating, and the 300 level at the top. The stadium has 131 suites.

100 level

The lower bowl wraps the field. The Vikings bench is on the south sideline, directly in front of the Delta Sky360 Club, a field-level patio behind the team. Visitors use the north sideline. The TCL Club seats sit about 41 feet from the sideline, which the team describes as the closest in the NFL. The North and South Red Zone Clubs occupy 100-level seats between the end zone and the 20-yard line.

200 level

The club level. The Sukup Club is on the Vikings' south sideline, above the field-level Medtronic Club, and Club Gold is on the north sideline above the Polaris Club.

300 level

The upper deck, the least expensive way in, with a full view of the field and the clear roof overhead.

For concerts, the field becomes floor seating, and the stage usually sits at one end, which closes or limits the sections behind it. Check the event map, since configurations change by tour.

Best seats for Vikings games and concerts

For a Vikings game

  • Closest to the team: the south sideline in the 100 level, behind the Vikings bench. Expect the highest demand here.
  • Best overall football view: the 100 or 200 level between the 20-yard lines, about 15 rows up or more, where you see plays develop over the players standing on the sideline.
  • Best value: the 300 level along either sideline. The view of the whole field is complete, and the climate control means the top of the bowl is as comfortable as the bottom.
  • Best for following the visitors: the north sideline, opposite the Vikings bench, with the same geometry and the home bench in view across the field.

Seats to think twice about

  • Low rows behind the end zones: close to the action at one end but flat to the far end of the field, where you watch most plays on the video boards.
  • The first rows directly behind either bench: players and staff standing on the sideline block part of the field.
  • The 300-level corners: long and angled, best treated as a budget ticket to be in the building.

For concerts

The lower bowl facing the stage often gives a better view than the back half of the floor, where sightlines depend on the crowd in front of you. Side sections close to the stage put you nearer the performers than the back of the floor, with a raised angle over the crowd.

Getting there: light rail, U.S. Bank Stadium parking and skyways

U.S. Bank Stadium is one of the few NFL stadiums with rail service at the door. The METRO Blue and Green light rail lines both stop at U.S. Bank Stadium station, and the team also points fans to Northstar commuter rail. The downtown skyway system connects to the stadium and is open for all events.

Parking

  • The ramps and lots around the stadium, including the 511 Ramp and surface lot, the 1010 Ramp, the Downtown East Ramp, the HCMC Ramp and the Stadium Parking Garage, are permit parking only on Vikings game days.
  • Single-game parking can be reserved in advance through ParkWhiz, which the team uses as its parking partner.
  • Tailgating passes are sold only for the full season; single-game tailgating passes are not available.

Rideshare and taxis

Rideshare pickup and drop-off is on 10th Avenue South between 6th and 7th Streets. The taxi stand is on the east side of Park Avenue South between 5th and 6th Streets. Check the Vikings parking page for current options, since ramps and prices change by season and event.

U.S. Bank Stadium bag policy and entry (2026 season)

As of the 2026 season, Vikings games follow the NFL clear-bag policy (bags must be transparent plastic, vinyl or PVC): one clear bag no larger than 12 by 6 by 12 inches, or a one-gallon clear plastic freezer bag, plus a small clutch no larger than 4.5 by 6.5 inches. Backpacks, cinch bags, coolers and purses larger than a clutch are not allowed. Medical bags are reviewed case by case.

For other events, the stadium prohibits any bag larger than 12 by 6 by 12 inches, along with hard-sided containers, coolers, briefcases and backpacks. Check the venue's current policy before you go.

  • Entrances: the Ecolab Gate (north), the Legacy Gate (west, on Medtronic Plaza), the Upper and Lower 3M Gates (south), the CFMOTO Gate (northwest), the Skyway entrance (northwest) and the Ticketmaster Gate (east).
  • Tickets: Vikings tickets are mobile, through the Vikings app.
  • Payment: the stadium is cashless; bring a card or a phone wallet.

From the Metrodome to a glass stadium

The Vikings played at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome from 1982 through 2013, then spent two seasons at the University of Minnesota's outdoor stadium while the new building went up on the Metrodome site. Designed by HKS of Dallas and built for about 1.06 billion dollars, U.S. Bank Stadium has a sharply slanted roof inspired by Nordic vernacular architecture, shaped to shed heavy snow. About 240,000 square feet of the roof is ETFE, and the glass entrances include giant pivoting doors.

  • January 2018: the Minneapolis Miracle, the last-play touchdown that won a Vikings playoff game against the New Orleans Saints.
  • February 4, 2018: Super Bowl LII.
  • 2018 and 2019: the X Games.
  • April 2019: the NCAA Men's Final Four, with a stadium record crowd of 72,711.

The stadium is owned by the Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority and operated by ASM Global.
