Dates and live ticket listings appear here as soon as they are on sale. The guide below covers what to know before you buy.

& Juliet's last Broadway season

& Juliet is still running on Broadway, but not for long. In September 2026 the producers announced that the musical will play its final performance at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre on January 3, 2027. By then it will have given 1,723 regular performances and 20 previews, which places it among the 50 longest-running musicals in Broadway history. If you want to see the New York production, the window is the fall of 2026 and the holiday season.

The premise is a revision of Shakespeare. Anne Hathaway, Shakespeare's wife, argues with him over the ending of Romeo and Juliet and takes over the pen. In her version Juliet does not die. She leaves Verona for Paris with her friends, and Anne writes herself into the story as a character named April. The score is built from pop songs written or co-written by the Swedish producer Max Martin, including "Since U Been Gone," "Roar," "I Want It That Way" and "Confident," rearranged to carry the plot.

From Manchester to the Sondheim

The show has a book by David West Read, an Emmy-winning television writer, with direction by Luke Sheppard and choreography by Jennifer Weber. Its route to New York ran through three cities:

  • Manchester: a tryout at the Manchester Opera House from September 10 to October 12, 2019.
  • London: the West End production opened at the Shaftesbury Theatre on November 20, 2019, won three Olivier Awards in 2020, including Best Actress in a Musical for Miriam-Teak Lee, and closed on March 25, 2023.
  • Toronto: a pre-Broadway run at the Princess of Wales Theatre from June 22 to August 14, 2022.
  • Broadway: previews from October 28, 2022, and an official opening on November 17, 2022.

On Broadway it earned nine Tony Award nominations in 2023, including Best Musical, and did not win. The production says it has played to more than 1.5 million people in New York and given 43 performers their Broadway debuts. A North American tour launched in Baltimore in September 2024, and productions have played or been announced in Australia, Germany, Sweden, New Zealand and the Netherlands.

Runtime, age guidance and what the show feels like

The Broadway production runs about 2 hours and 30 minutes, including one intermission, and is recommended for ages 8 and up. Children under 4 are not admitted to Broadway theaters.

What to expect:

  • Tone: a romantic comedy staged with a pop concert's energy, built on songs many in the audience already know.
  • Content: the production's 8+ recommendation is the best guide; expect flirtation and comic innuendo rather than anything graphic.
  • Familiarity helps but is not required: knowing the songs adds jokes, because the show uses lyrics for punch lines, but the plot is easy to follow without them.

The show plays Tuesday through Sunday with no Monday performances; the schedule shifts during holiday weeks, so check the date you want before you plan around it.

Where to sit at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre

The Stephen Sondheim Theatre, at 124 West 43rd Street, was rebuilt inside the shell of the old Henry Miller's Theatre and reopened in 2009. It holds 1,055 seats. The layout is unusual: you enter at street level onto the mezzanine, and the orchestra sits below it. About two-thirds of all seats are on the orchestra level, so the mezzanine is relatively compact.

Center orchestra, middle rows

The best all-around choice for this show. You are close enough to read faces during the comedy and level with the choreography, and far enough back to take in the full stage during ensemble numbers.

Front mezzanine, center

The best value for a dance-heavy musical. Jennifer Weber's choreography reads as patterns from above, and the lighting and scenic effects are designed to be seen as a whole picture. Because the mezzanine is small, even its rear rows are not far from the stage by Broadway standards.

Seats to think twice about

  • The first few orchestra rows: exciting for the pop-concert energy, but you look up at the stage and lose some of the stage-floor patterns.
  • Extreme side seats at either level: you may miss action on the near side of the stage and get an angled view of the scenery.
  • Seats under the mezzanine overhang at the back of the orchestra: the sound is fine, but the top of the set and the lighting rig can be cut off.

Why the final weeks sell first

A closing announcement changes how a long-running show sells. When The Phantom of the Opera announced its Broadway closing in 2022, attendance surged enough that the final date moved back two months. & Juliet's announcement in September 2026 starts a similar countdown, and its final stretch overlaps the busiest weeks of the Broadway calendar.

  • The final week and the January 3 finale: the last performances draw longtime fans and cast alumni and are usually the hardest tickets of the run.
  • Thanksgiving through New Year's: holiday visitors fill weekend and matinee performances, and the show's age 8+ guidance makes it a family pick.
  • Best selection: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings in October and early November.
  • Special casting: the production has advertised Joey Fatone at select performances and new cast members joining during the fall, and dates with a featured performer can sell faster.

Resale prices for weeknights tend to soften close to the date when a performance is not sold out; weekend and final-week prices tend to climb as the closing nears. The production also sells rush and standing-room tickets directly; details are on the official site. Every GoodSeats order is backed by a 100% guarantee.

After Broadway: the tour and productions abroad

Closing in New York does not end the show's life. The North American tour, which began in Baltimore in September 2024, was scheduled to run through November 2026, and productions in Europe and the Pacific continue on their own schedules.
