Georgia Tech football: Heisman, Dodd and a downtown campus
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets football tickets get you into Bobby Dodd Stadium at Hyundai Field, the program's on-campus stadium in Midtown Atlanta, for a home schedule that usually runs from early September through late November. Football has been played on the site since 1905, which makes it the oldest stadium in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS, the top tier of college football), and it seats 51,913 after a 2024 reduction.
The program played its first game in 1892 and became a national force under John Heisman, the coach the Heisman Trophy is named for. His teams went 30–1–2 from 1915 to 1918, won the 1917 national title and beat Cumberland 222–0 in 1916, still the most lopsided score in football history. Tech claims four national championships in all: 1917, 1928, 1952 and 1990. Bobby Dodd, the winningest coach in school history with 165 wins, led the unbeaten 1952 team and later took Tech out of the Southeastern Conference in 1964 after disputes with other SEC programs.
Georgia Tech has played in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) since 1983 and has claimed 16 conference titles across several leagues. Bobby Ross's unbeaten 1990 team won the Coaches Poll national championship, and Paul Johnson's option offense brought a 2014 Orange Bowl win. Notable alumni include Calvin Johnson, Demaryius Thomas, Keith Brooking and Joe Hamilton.
Where to sit at Bobby Dodd Stadium
Bobby Dodd Stadium, also called Grant Field or The Flats, has been rebuilt many times since Tech students helped erect its first permanent grandstand in 1913. The land slopes upward from north to south, and much of the field sits below street level. The modern west grandstand was built over the original concrete stands, a 2002–2003 project bowled in the north end and added a freestanding north upper deck, and the Wardlaw Center fills much of the south end. In 2024, sections 218 and 219 and part of section 217 were removed for the Fanning Center in the northeast corner, reducing capacity from 55,000 to 51,913.
- East and west sidelines: The best views, with upper decks on both sides that date to the 1960s. Lower-level seats between the 30-yard lines are the premium choice, and the Midtown skyline rises around the bowl.
- North end zone: The 2002 rebuild of the north stands and lower east bleachers added a club section with chairback seats and an air-conditioned lounge, and the north upper deck followed in 2003. Part of the north end zone is student seating, home to the student group known as the Swarm, next to the band.
- South end zone: Seating in front of the Wardlaw Center also includes student sections; the Goldfellas, students painted gold, sit in the front row behind the south goalpost.
- Upper-deck and corner seats: The budget options. In a stadium of about 52,000, a high sideline seat usually beats a low end-zone seat for following the game.
Many seats are still metal bleachers. A renovation plan called Full Steam Ahead, approved in 2025, calls for replacing bleachers with chairback seats, adding a video board between the north and west stands and building new club areas, with construction set to begin in fall 2026 and finish in 2027. Expect seating changes during that period, and check the current seating map before you buy. Some Tech home games have also been moved to Mercedes-Benz Stadium under an agreement that runs through 2026, so confirm the venue on the listing.
Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate and the other games that matter
Georgia Tech's demand is shaped by a few opponents:
- Georgia: The rivalry known as Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate dates to 1893, when Georgia fans threw stones at Tech players after a Tech win. The teams play for the Governor's Cup, usually in the last regular-season game, and the site alternates between Atlanta and Athens. Georgia leads 73–41–5 through 2025. When it is in Atlanta, it is the hardest Tech ticket of the year.
- Clemson: A rivalry since 1898 and Tech's closest ACC opponent by distance. Georgia Tech leads the series 51–36–2, and Clemson fans have a long history of making the trip to Atlanta for it.
- Duke and Virginia Tech: Long-running ACC series. Since the conference dropped divisions in 2023, neither is guaranteed every year.
- Miami: The 2024 homecoming upset of a fourth-ranked, unbeaten Miami ended with fans storming the field and tearing down both goalposts.
Notre Dame games are rare but popular, as are any visits with ACC title stakes. Early-season games against smaller programs are usually the easiest tickets to find.
Getting to The Flats and gameday traditions
Bobby Dodd Stadium sits at North Avenue and Techwood Drive, just off the Downtown Connector (Interstate 75/85) and across from the Varsity restaurant. MARTA's North Avenue station, on the Red and Gold lines, is a short walk east of the stadium along North Avenue, which makes transit the easiest way in for most visitors. Campus parking is limited and managed by the athletics department, so check its current gameday parking guide before you drive.
- The Ramblin' Reck: A 1930 Ford Model A Sports Coupe that has led the team onto the field in a tradition dating to 1961.
- Yellow Jacket Alley: The players' walk from the buses to the stadium, lined by fans before every game.
- The steam whistle: Blown after every Tech score and again after every win.
- The fight songs: "Up With the White and Gold" plays after a touchdown and "Ramblin' Wreck from Georgia Tech" after the extra point. The band also plays "When You Say Budweiser, You've Said It All" after the third quarter.
- White-out: Begun for a 2008 Thursday night game against Miami and now an annual event.
Bag and entry rules change from season to season; check the athletics department's current policy before you go.
How Georgia Tech football tickets work
Georgia Tech Athletics sells season tickets, single-game tickets and premium seating, and priority for the best seats generally follows donor giving to the athletic association. Students receive their own allotment. For most of the schedule, tickets are available through the season, but the Georgia game in Atlanta and the biggest ACC visits can sell through quickly.
For those games, the resale market is where most fans find seats. Demand rises with the team's record: a strong start pushes up prices for every remaining home game, while a slow season softens them. Both rivals are within driving distance of Atlanta, which adds visiting demand for those dates. Every GoodSeats order is backed by a 100% guarantee.
Schedules, kickoff times and venue details, including any game moved to Mercedes-Benz Stadium, are posted on Georgia Tech Athletics' official site. Kickoff times are often set only days or a couple of weeks ahead.
