Arsenal in brief
Arsenal F.C. is a Premier League club based in Islington, North London, that plays its home matches at Emirates Stadium, a 60,704-seat ground it moved into in 2006. Home tickets are sold almost entirely to club members through ballots, so a visit from the US needs a membership, official hospitality or a lot of planning. The club won the 2025–26 Premier League, its 14th English league title, clinching it with a game to spare.
The club was founded in October 1886 by munitions workers at the Royal Arsenal in Woolwich, south-east London, under the name Dial Square, which is where the nickname the Gunners comes from; supporters call themselves Gooners. It moved north to Highbury in 1913 and spent 93 years there before the move to the Emirates.
- League titles: 14, third in English history behind Liverpool and Manchester United.
- FA Cups: 14, the most of any club.
- The Invincibles: in 2003–04 Arsenal played the full 38-match Premier League season unbeaten, a feat no other club has matched in the Premier League era.
- Ownership: as of 2026, the club is owned by Stan Kroenke's Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, the American group that also owns the Los Angeles Rams.
In 2025–26 Arsenal also reached the UEFA Champions League final, losing to Paris Saint-Germain on penalties after a 1–1 draw. Squads and managers change, so check the current roster rather than relying on any past season's lineup.
Emirates Stadium: the layout
Emirates Stadium opened on July 22, 2006, designed by HOK Sport (now Populous). Its four stands carry the names used at Highbury: the North Bank and the Clock End behind the goals, and the East Stand and West Stand along the sidelines. The bowl is stacked in four tiers:
- Lower tier: the largest tier, closest to the field, wrapping all four sides.
- Club Level: a premium tier of about 7,100 seats with lounge access, sold as season seats and hospitality.
- Box level: private executive boxes above Club Level.
- Upper tier: the top ring, steep and continuous around the ground, with open corners for airflow.
Away supporters sit in the south-east corner of the lower tier, with an allocation of about 1,500 that can expand to about 9,000 for cup matches. The ground's record crowd is 60,383, for Arsenal against Wolverhampton Wanderers on November 2, 2019. Arsenal Women also began playing regularly at the Emirates in 2024, and the stadium hosts concerts with capacity raised to about 72,000.
Where to sit at the Emirates
The Emirates was built with sightlines in mind, and there are few truly bad seats. The choice is about view versus atmosphere.
- Lower tier, East and West Stands, near halfway: the best match view. Aim for the middle rows; the front rows are low enough that the far touchline flattens out, and they can catch rain.
- Upper tier along the sidelines: the value choice for watching the game. It is high, but the steep rake (the angle of the stand) keeps you over the field, and the whole pitch and its tactical shape are in view.
- Club Level: padded seats, indoor lounges and the most comfortable day out; this is where most hospitality packages place guests.
- North Bank and Clock End: the ends behind the goals, where many of the most vocal home supporters gather. Expect singing and standing at big moments, and a less complete view of the far end.
- Near the south-east corner: seats beside the away section get the loudest exchanges between fans. Avoid wearing the visiting club's colors in a home section; stewards may move you.
For a first visit, a sideline seat in the lower or upper tier gives the best combination of view and atmosphere. The club publishes a seating plan and seat-view tool on its site to check a block before you buy.
How Arsenal tickets work
Arsenal sells home tickets to members only. Membership tiers include Silver, Red and Disabled Access, and each match has its own ballot window, usually about four to six weeks before kickoff. Members may buy one ticket per match, and entering early does not change the odds. The club has published recent ballot success rates of about 42 percent for Silver members and 11 to 12 percent for Red members, which shows how hard a seat is to win at the lower tier.
- Ticket Exchange: after a ballot closes, unsuccessful members can buy seats released by season ticket holders and members who cannot attend. Access can widen closer to match day.
- Groups: members can link accounts to apply together, and occasional friends-and-family sales allow a few extra tickets.
- Hospitality: packages sold by the club's hospitality department do not require membership and are the most dependable route for a visitor with fixed travel dates.
The club states that tickets from unofficial websites, agencies, social media or touts are invalid and that holders can be refused entry or ejected, and UK law makes unauthorized resale of tickets for designated football matches an offense. Fixtures and the matches in highest demand
Arsenal plays 19 Premier League home matches a season between August and May, plus domestic cup and European matches. The 2026–27 season opened at the Emirates on August 21, 2026, against newly promoted Coventry City. Every home league match is in heavy demand, but some stand apart:
- The North London derby: matches against Tottenham Hotspur, the club's nearest neighbor and its longest and deepest rivalry, are the hardest tickets of the season.
- Title rivals and London clubs: visits from Manchester City, Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea are typically next.
- European nights: UEFA Champions League knockout matches, played midweek under lights, draw some of the loudest crowds.
- Cup matches: early-round domestic cup ties against lower-division clubs can be the easiest home matches to get into.
Dates and kickoff times are often moved for television after the fixtures are released, so build slack into travel plans.
Matchday: getting there and getting in
- Tube and rail: Arsenal station (Piccadilly line) serves the northern side of the stadium via the Ken Friar Bridge; Highbury & Islington serves the southern end; Finsbury Park and Holloway Road are also close. The club advises that Holloway Road is exit-only before the match and closed for up to two hours after, and Drayton Park closes on matchdays.
- Arrive early: the club asks supporters to arrive at least 60 minutes before kickoff. The Clock End Bridge near the large Arsenal letters is a quieter approach from Arsenal station.
- Bags: as of the 2025–26 season, bags larger than A4 size (about 8.3 by 11.7 inches) are not allowed and all bags are searched. There is no luggage storage at the ground; the club points visitors to storage at King's Cross station. Check the current policy before you go.
- Driving: matchday parking restrictions apply in the surrounding streets, so public transit is the practical choice.
Arsenal in the United States
Arsenal has made regular preseason visits to the US. On its 2023 tour, it beat the MLS All-Stars 5–0 at Audi Field in Washington, D.C., on July 19, the largest margin in All-Star Game history. On the 2024 tour, it played Manchester United at SoFi Stadium on July 27 and Liverpool at Lincoln Financial Field on July 31. In 2025 the club toured Asia instead.
Tour matches are sold by promoters under US rules, often in NFL stadiums with tens of thousands of seats, so they are far easier to attend than a home match in London. They are friendlies, though, and lineups rotate heavily. The Soccer page covers other European club tours and US soccer.
