The Thunder in brief: from Seattle to a 2025 title

The Oklahoma City Thunder play their home games at Paycom Center in downtown Oklahoma City, with a regular season that runs from October to mid-April and playoffs that can stretch into June. The team competes in the Western Conference's Northwest Division.

The franchise is older than its name. It began in 1967 as the Seattle SuperSonics, won the 1979 NBA championship in Seattle, and relocated to Oklahoma City in July 2008. In Oklahoma, the Thunder reached the 2012 NBA Finals, losing to the Miami Heat in five games, and then won the franchise's second title in 2025. The 2024–25 team won a franchise-record 68 regular-season games and beat the Indiana Pacers in a seven-game Finals, closing it out 103–91 in Game 7 at home on June 22, 2025. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was named Finals MVP.

Oklahoma City is one of the smallest markets in the NBA, and the team is the only major-league franchise in the state. That gives home games a civic feel: the crowd is local, loyal and loud. Rumble the Bison, introduced in 2009, is the mascot, and "Thunder Up" became the rallying cry during the 2012 playoff run.

Paycom Center and how the seating works

Paycom Center opened in June 2002 as the Ford Center, years before the NBA arrived. It later carried the names Oklahoma City Arena and Chesapeake Energy Arena before becoming Paycom Center in 2021. It seats 18,203 for basketball, and it briefly hosted the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets from 2005 to 2007 after Hurricane Katrina.

Seating comes in three main tiers:

  • The lower level (sections 101–120) wraps the court and holds the courtside seats and the closest sideline views.
  • The Cox Club level (the 200 sections) sits between the bowls and is the premium middle tier, with club amenities.
  • Loud City (sections 301–330) is the upper level. The name is also what the fan base calls itself, and this deck is where much of the noise comes from.

Section ranges here follow published fan seat-view maps; confirm exact locations on the seat map for your game, since layouts can change between seasons.

Where to sit for a Thunder game

Courtside and the first rows

Courtside seats put you on the floor at the edge of the court. They are the scarcest and most expensive seats in the building, and they are about proximity more than perspective: from the floor, the far end of the court flattens out. If you want to see plays develop, the first 10 rows behind courtside often give a better angle.

Lower bowl: sideline vs. baseline

Sideline sections at center court in the 100 level are the benchmark seats for basketball, and they hold their value even for ordinary opponents. Corner sections are a good compromise, close to the action with a diagonal view of both baskets. Seats directly behind the baskets are the cheapest way into the lower level, but the stanchion and backboard cut into the view when play is at your end, and depth perception across the court is poor. Pick a higher row behind the basket rather than a low one.

Club level

The 200-level club seats offer a raised, centered view and indoor amenities. They suit buyers who want comfort and a clean sightline over atmosphere.

Loud City

The upper level is the best value in the building and the best place to feel the crowd. Rows near the front of the 300 level along the sidelines see the whole floor clearly. The top rows of the corners are the seats to avoid if you care about detail; players look small and the scoreboard dominates the view.

The NBA calendar and which Thunder games sell first

The NBA season follows a fixed shape: preseason games in October, an 82-game regular season (41 at home) from October to mid-April, the in-season NBA Cup with games in November and December, a play-in tournament in mid-April, and best-of-seven playoff rounds from April through June.

A few patterns drive Thunder demand:

  • Marquee opponents: teams with national stars and large followings draw the most interest, and visiting fans fill seats for those games.
  • Western Conference rivals: the San Antonio Spurs and Dallas Mavericks have the longest playoff history with Oklahoma City, and Spurs games carry extra interest in the current era.
  • Weekend and holiday dates: Friday and Saturday games, plus home dates around the holidays, sell through before midweek games.
  • Playoff games: after the 2025 title run, home playoff games are the hardest tickets in the state, and they go on sale on short notice once a series schedule is set.

The easiest tickets are usually weeknight games against Eastern Conference teams without a headline star, especially early in the season. Prices on the resale market move with standings, injuries and the opponent, so watch a specific game for a few days before buying.

Getting to Paycom Center: streetcar, garages and walkways

Paycom Center sits at 100 West Reno Avenue, on the south edge of downtown and a short walk from Bricktown's restaurants and bars. Many fans park once and walk.

  • Streetcar: the OKC Streetcar stops immediately north of the arena on Reno Avenue and southwest of it at Oklahoma City Boulevard and South Robinson Avenue, on both the Bricktown and Downtown loops.
  • Garages: nearby options listed for recent seasons include the Arts District, Sheridan-Walker, Century Center and Santa Fe garages, plus the Scissortail lot. The regional transit agency EMBARK lists gameday shuttles from the Sheridan-Walker and Arts District garages and free streetcar and RAPID bus rides with a downtown parking receipt.
  • Bus: the RAPID line offers free park-and-ride at Northwest Expressway and Meridian Avenue, with stops about two and a half blocks from the arena.

Construction of a new downtown arena north of Paycom Center has changed parking in recent seasons, so check EMBARK's Paycom Center transit page before you go.

Gameday at Paycom Center: bags, timing and atmosphere

Plan to arrive 45 minutes before tipoff for a regular-season game and earlier for the playoffs, when downtown fills up and the plaza outside the arena becomes a gathering spot. The pregame introductions in Loud City are a highlight, so be in your seat before the opening tip.

As of the 2025 playoffs, local reporting described a small-bag policy: bags of about 6 by 9 by 2 inches or smaller, such as a clutch or belt bag, with backpacks prohibited and medical and diaper bags screened separately. Check the arena's current policy before you go, since bag rules change.

Your order through GoodSeats is backed by a 100% guarantee, and tickets are typically delivered as mobile tickets for entry from your phone.

Notable moments and what comes next

The Thunder's history in Oklahoma City divides into clear chapters. The early teams built around Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and James Harden reached the 2012 Finals within four seasons of the move. Durant left for Golden State in 2016, and the club later rebuilt around Gilgeous-Alexander and a stockpile of draft picks, a process that ended with the 2025 championship.

The arena is also on a clock. Voters approved a sales-tax extension in December 2023 to fund a new arena on the former Cox Convention Center site, targeted for about the 2029 season. Until then, Paycom Center remains home, and the Seattle chapter, including the 1979 title, remains part of the franchise's official record.
