The Panthers in brief: two NFC titles in three decades
The Carolina Panthers play their home games at Bank of America Stadium, an open-air stadium in uptown Charlotte, from September into early January. The NFL awarded the franchise in 1993, and the team began play in 1995, spending its first season at Memorial Stadium in Clemson, South Carolina, while the Charlotte stadium was finished. The team represents both Carolinas, and its fan base reaches well beyond Charlotte.
The Panthers compete in the NFC South with Atlanta, New Orleans and Tampa Bay, after spending their first seven seasons in the NFC West. They have won two NFC championships, after the 2003 and 2015 seasons, and lost Super Bowl XXXVIII to New England and Super Bowl 50 to Denver. Jerry Richardson founded and owned the club until David Tepper bought it in 2018.
- Slogan: "Keep Pounding," taken from linebacker Sam Mills' speech to the team before a 2003 playoff game.
- Mascot: Sir Purr, on the sideline since 1995.
- Rivals: Atlanta, the closest division opponent by road along I-85, and Tampa Bay and New Orleans.
Bank of America Stadium seating: levels, sun and sightlines
The stadium sits at 800 South Mint Street and seats about 75,000; Wikipedia lists 75,037 as of 2025, a figure that has changed several times since the 1996 opening. Seating falls into three general tiers:
- 100 level: the lower bowl, which runs only about 19 rows, so nearly every seat is close to the field.
- 300 level: the club and suite tier, including the Silver Club seats along the sidelines.
- 500 level: the upper deck, about 34 rows deep and reached by escalators added in 2014.
Where to sit
In the 100 level, sit toward the top of the section on the sideline. The short lower bowl means row 15 is still close, and it clears the players and staff standing along the bench. The 300-level club seats give the best balance of height and comfort. The 500-level sideline is the value option and often among the least expensive tickets in the building.
Sun is the main factor
This is an open-air stadium, and the lower level has no cover at all. The east side gets more sun overall, and upper-deck sections 515–530 see the longest exposure during the day. For early-season 1 p.m. games, that matters: buyers who want to avoid the sun should favor the west side. In December, the same sun can be welcome.
Seats to think twice about
Upper end zone seats face a large video board at the far end, but the board at their own end is behind them. Low rows behind the benches look close on a map but lose much of the far side of the field. Seating guides do not agree on which bench belongs to the Panthers, so confirm on the seat map before paying extra for the home side.
Which Panthers games draw the biggest demand
The NFL calendar runs from a short August preseason through a 17-game regular season to the January playoffs. The Panthers host eight or nine regular-season games a year.
- Atlanta: the I-85 rivalry brings a large visiting crowd up the interstate, which adds buyers and lifts prices.
- Tampa Bay and New Orleans: division games carry standings weight and draw traveling fans of their own.
- Prime-time games: night kickoffs in uptown Charlotte usually draw more interest than a Sunday afternoon game.
- Teams with national followings: opponents whose fans travel in numbers push demand up across the bowl.
- Late-season games with stakes: a December game with the division in play can climb quickly, and one with nothing at stake often softens.
Weather moves this market more than it does in domed stadiums. A cold or rainy forecast late in the season can bring more resale inventory onto the market in the final days.
Gameday in uptown Charlotte: light rail, rideshare and entry
The stadium's uptown location makes transit and walking practical. The LYNX Blue Line light rail stops at Brooklyn Village station (formerly Stonewall) near the stadium, and many uptown hotels and garages are within walking distance. The Panthers have recommended Waze or Google Maps for event-day traffic plans and street closures.
The team's rideshare pickup zone has been near Romare Bearden Park, with marked routes from the North and East gates. Parking is spread across stadium lots and private uptown decks and surface lots; if you plan to tailgate, check the specific lot's rules before you bring a grill.
Stadium gates normally open two hours before kickoff. The NFL clear-bag policy applies: bags must be transparent plastic, vinyl or PVC no larger than 12 by 6 by 12 inches, and small bags or clutches can be no larger than 4.5 by 6.5 inches. Panthers tickets are mobile through the team app, and PDF tickets are not valid for entry. Smoking and vaping are banned throughout the stadium. Check the stadium's bag policy page for current rules before you go.
Every GoodSeats order is backed by a 100% guarantee, and resale tickets are delivered for mobile entry.
Road trips and the NFC South map
Atlanta is the easiest road trip for Panthers fans, a drive down I-85, and the Falcons game is the one where Carolina fans show up in the largest numbers. New Orleans and Tampa are longer trips that pair well with a weekend away. In any opponent's stadium, upper-deck and end zone sections are where visiting fans tend to cluster, and buying early is the safer course for road games against teams that sell out.
A short history: from Clemson to Super Bowl 50
- 1995: the expansion season, played at Clemson.
- 1996: the stadium opened as Ericsson Stadium, and the Panthers won the NFC West and reached the NFC Championship Game in only their second season.
- 2003: the "Keep Pounding" team reached Super Bowl XXXVIII and lost 32–29 to New England.
- 2004: the stadium took the Bank of America name.
- 2015: the Panthers went 15–1, quarterback Cam Newton was named NFL MVP, and the season ended with a 24–10 loss to Denver in Super Bowl 50.
- 2021: artificial turf replaced natural grass, and Charlotte FC of MLS began playing at the stadium in 2022.
Six bronze panther statues have guarded the main entrances since 1996, and statues of Sam Mills and longtime executive Mike McCormack stand outside. In June 2024, the team announced a renovation estimated at more than 800 million dollars, with construction expected between 2026 and 2029, so expect some changes to entrances, concourses and seating in the coming seasons.
