The Mariners in brief: a Northwest franchise built on a few big seasons

The Seattle Mariners play home games at T-Mobile Park in the SoDo district (the industrial and stadium area just south of downtown), and the regular season runs from late March or early April through late September. The club joined the American League as an expansion team in 1977 and has played in the AL West since its first season.

The franchise story is one of long waits broken by memorable runs. Seattle has won the division four times (1995, 1997, 2001 and 2025) and reached the postseason as a wild card in 2000 and 2022. The 2001 team won 116 regular-season games, tying the 1906 Chicago Cubs for the most in Major League history. The 2022 club ended a 21-year playoff drought, and the 2025 team won the AL West and took Toronto to a seventh game in the American League Championship Series. The Mariners have not yet appeared in a World Series, which shapes how fans treat every October berth.

Three numbers retired by the club tell the identity: 24 for Ken Griffey Jr., 11 for Edgar Martinez and 51 for Ichiro Suzuki. The mascot is the Mariner Moose, and locals shorten the team to "the M's."

T-Mobile Park: a roof that keeps rain off without closing the park

T-Mobile Park opened on July 15, 1999, replacing the Kingdome, and was called Safeco Field until the name changed on January 1, 2019. Wikipedia lists baseball capacity at 47,368. The retractable roof covers about nine acres and takes roughly 10 to 20 minutes to move, but it does not seal the building. With the roof closed, the sides stay open, so wind and evening chill still reach the seats. Bring a layer for April, May and September night games even when the roof is shut.

The seating runs in three main bands from foul pole to foul pole:

  • Main Concourse (100 level): the lower bowl, about 20,500 seats, closest to the field.
  • Club Level (200 level): a smaller middle tier with club amenities, above the suites.
  • View Level (300 level): the upper deck, about 15,900 seats, with skyline and water views.

The outfield adds bleachers above the left-field bullpens and above the center-field batter's eye (the dark backdrop that helps hitters see the pitch), plus The 'Pen, a standing-room area beside the bullpens.

Choosing a Mariners seat: infield, outfield, roof and the View Level

Seat choice at T-Mobile Park comes down to how close you want to be, how much weather you will tolerate and whether you want the view of the city or the view of the pitch.

Infield 100 level

The sections between the dugouts give the best look at pitch movement and plays at the bases. Ballparks of Baseball lists the first-base dugout as the Mariners' side; confirm on the team's current seating map before you pay a premium to sit behind it. Rows in the middle of the lower bowl are usually the better buy than the first few rows, because the extra height lets you see over the dugout roofs and the netting.

View Level value

The 300 level is the strongest value in the building. Guides point to the sections around home plate (roughly the low-to-mid 320s) for a full view of the field with the downtown skyline behind it, and evening games add a sunset over the left-field side. Lookout Landing, the upper-deck area down the left-field line, is the spot for city and Puget Sound views.

Outfield and bleachers

The center-field bleachers sit directly in front of the main video board, so you lose easy access to replays and the line score. The left-field bleachers above the bullpens give you a close look at relievers warming up. The 'Pen suits fans who want to wander rather than sit.

Weather

Even with the roof closed, seats near the open edges and in the outer rows of the upper deck catch wind and blowing rain. On a wet night, the covered rows deeper in each level are the safer choice.

The season calendar and which Mariners games sell first

The Mariners train in Peoria, Arizona, at the Peoria Sports Complex each February and March. The 162-game regular season runs from late March or early April through late September, with about half the games at home, and the postseason fills October for qualifying teams.

Demand follows a clear pattern:

  • Opening Day and the first homestand sell strongly regardless of the opponent.
  • Weekend games in June, July and August carry the most demand, since summer is Seattle's driest stretch and tourists add to local crowds.
  • Division and regional rivals such as the Houston Astros and Los Angeles Angels, plus interleague dates with the San Diego Padres, draw more interest than an average midweek series.
  • Toronto Blue Jays series bring a large visiting crowd, and the 2025 playoff meeting added an edge.
  • Giveaways and number-retirement nights push walk-up demand higher.

Midweek April and September games against non-contending clubs are usually the easiest seats to find. Resale prices tend to soften close to first pitch for those dates and climb for weekends and pennant-race games.

Getting to SoDo, entry rules and the gameday routine

T-Mobile Park sits at 1250 First Avenue South, next to Lumen Field. Transit is the easiest way in. The Link light rail stops at Stadium station a short walk away, and King Street Station (Amtrak and Sounder commuter rail) is nearby, along with the First Hill Streetcar. Fans coming from the waterfront can walk south from the piers.

An attached garage holds about 1,800 cars. As of the 2026 season, the Mariners say garage spaces are first come, first served on game days rather than sold in advance. Plan extra time when the Seahawks, Sounders or a stadium concert overlap with a game.

As of the 2026 season, the club enforces a clear-bag policy (bags must be transparent and no larger than 12 by 6 by 12 inches, or a one-gallon clear zip-top bag), with small clutches allowed up to 4.5 by 6.5 inches. Backpacks are not permitted. The 'Pen gates, including the Center Field Gate, open two hours before first pitch, and other gates open 90 minutes before. The ballpark is cashless, and there is no re-entry. Check the Mariners ballpark guide for the current rules before you go.

Food leans local, with Edgar's Cantina in the left-field corner and the Bullpen Market near the bullpens. Every GoodSeats order is backed by a 100% guarantee.

Following the Mariners on the road

Seattle is a long flight from most American League cities, so Mariners road crowds are built more on regional transplants than on fans flying in. Series in Southern California against the Angels and Padres are the easiest trips from the Northwest and draw visible pockets of Seattle fans. Toronto is the reverse case: Blue Jays fans travel to Seattle in large numbers, and a trip north to Toronto is a popular way to return the visit.

Spring training in Peoria, Arizona, is the lower-key way to see the club. The Cactus League schedule runs from late February through March, with smaller ballparks and closer seats than any regular-season game.

Moments that built the Mariners story

  • 1995, "The Double": Edgar Martinez's walk-off double in Game 5 of the American League Division Series against the Yankees sent Seattle to its first ALCS.
  • 1999: The move from the Kingdome to the new park in SoDo.
  • 2001: A 116-win regular season and the All-Star Game at the new park.
  • 2016, 2017 and 2025: The club retired 24 for Griffey, 11 for Martinez and 51 for Ichiro.
  • 2022: A wild-card berth ended a 21-year playoff drought.
  • 2023: T-Mobile Park hosted its second All-Star Game.
  • 2025: A division title and a seven-game ALCS against Toronto.

Frequently asked questions

Does the roof at T-Mobile Park close completely?

No. The retractable roof covers the field and seats but does not enclose the ballpark, so wind and cool air still come through the open sides. Bring a layer for night games in spring and fall.

What are the best value seats at T-Mobile Park?

The View Level (300 level) behind home plate offers a full view of the field and the downtown skyline for less than comparable lower-bowl seats. Lookout Landing down the left-field line is known for city and Puget Sound views.

What is the bag policy at T-Mobile Park?

As of the 2026 season, clear bags up to 12 by 6 by 12 inches and small clutches up to 4.5 by 6.5 inches are allowed, and backpacks are not. Check the Mariners' current guide before you go.

How do I get to a Mariners game without driving?

Take Link light rail to Stadium station, or use King Street Station for Amtrak and Sounder trains. The First Hill Streetcar also stops nearby.

Have the Mariners ever been to the World Series?

No. Seattle has reached the American League Championship Series, most recently in 2025, but has not won a pennant.

When do gates open at T-Mobile Park?

As of the 2026 season, The 'Pen gates open two hours before first pitch and the other gates open 90 minutes before. Times can change for special events.
