The Seahawks and the 12s

The Seattle Seahawks play their home games at Lumen Field, just south of downtown Seattle, with a regular season that runs from September into early January. They compete in the NFC West against the Arizona Cardinals, Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers.

Seattle joined the NFL as an expansion team in 1976. After one season in the NFC West, the club spent 1977 through 2001 in the AFC West before returning to the NFC West in 2002. The Seahawks have reached five Super Bowls: losses in XL to Pittsburgh and XLIX to New England, and wins in XLVIII (43–8 over Denver after the 2013 season) and LX (29–13 over New England in February 2026, played at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara).

The fan base defines the franchise. Supporters are known as the 12s, a name drawn from the old idea of the crowd as a twelfth player, and the team retired the number 12 in their honor in 1984. In 2013, Lumen Field crowds twice set Guinness World Records for crowd noise, the second time at 137.6 decibels.

Lumen Field: covered sidelines and an open north end

Lumen Field opened in 2002 on the site of the old Kingdome. It seats 68,740 for football and expands to about 72,000 for special events. Earlier names were Seahawks Stadium, Qwest Field and CenturyLink Field. The stadium is shared with the Seattle Sounders of MLS and Seattle Reign FC of the NWSL.

Two design choices matter to a ticket buyer:

  • A partial roof covers roughly 70% of the seats while leaving the field open to the weather. The roof shelters most sideline seating, and the overhead structure is widely credited with keeping crowd noise in the bowl.
  • A U-shaped bowl with an open north end frames a view of the downtown skyline. The north end zone holds the Hawks Nest, an uncovered bleacher section with some of the most committed fans in the building.

Seating runs in three main tiers: the 100 level (the lower bowl), the 200 level (club seats with lounge access) and the 300 level (the upper deck).

Where to sit at a Seahawks game

Staying dry

Late-season Seattle games often come with rain. The covered seats sit mainly along the sidelines and higher in the bowl; the lowest rows near the field and the open north end are the most exposed. If staying dry matters, buy higher in the 100 level or in the 300 level along the sidelines rather than in the front rows, where wind can carry rain under the roof edge.

Best view

Sideline seats between the 20-yard lines in the 100 level, about row 15 and up, give the clearest look at the whole field. The 200-level club seats add indoor space, which is worth more in December than in September.

Best atmosphere

The Hawks Nest in the north end zone is for fans who want noise and energy over a perfect sightline. It is uncovered and the view of the far end is flat, but expect a crowd on its feet for the big moments.

Best value

The front rows of the 300 level along the sidelines combine a high, clear angle, roof cover and a lower price than the lower bowl. Avoid the top rows of the upper-deck corners if you want to follow plays at the far end. Confirm which bench is on which sideline on the seat map for your specific game before paying a sideline premium.

Which Seahawks games are in highest demand

The season runs from August preseason games through a 17-game regular season from September to early January (eight or nine home games) and into January playoffs. Seattle draws strong home crowds, so demand differences show up mostly in which games sell through first.

  • Division rivals: the 49ers and Rams carry the most history in the modern era, and 49ers fans often travel north in large numbers.
  • The Packers: a longtime rival with a large national following.
  • Prime-time games: night games at Lumen Field are known for their volume, and they tend to draw extra interest.
  • Playoff games: home postseason games have a short window to buy and sell quickly.

Preseason games and early-season matchups against small-market opponents are usually the easiest to buy. Weather can soften demand for December games in the most exposed sections, while covered sideline seats hold their value.

Getting to Lumen Field and pregame plans

Lumen Field is one of the easiest NFL stadiums to reach without a car. Link light rail serves Stadium and International District/Chinatown stations, with Pioneer Square and SODO stations also a short walk away, and the line runs to Sea-Tac Airport. Sounder commuter trains stop at King Street Station, roughly a football field from the stadium. More than 15 King County Metro bus routes stop within three blocks, the First Hill Streetcar stops nearby, and Colman Dock, with ferries from Bainbridge Island and Bremerton, is less than a mile away. The stadium's transportation page has details.

On-site parking is limited to the Lumen Field Event Center garage and the North Lot, so most drivers use private lots in SoDo and Pioneer Square. Rideshare drop-offs are at King Street and Occidental (north) or Royal Brougham Way and Occidental (south). Pregame crowds gather in the bars and restaurants of Pioneer Square and along Occidental Avenue; formal tailgating space is limited compared with suburban stadiums, so check current lot rules before you plan a cookout.

Bag rules and entry

As of the 2025 season, Lumen Field allows clear plastic, vinyl or PVC bags no larger than 12 by 6 by 12 inches (clear backpacks of that size with no more than two pockets), one-gallon freezer bags and small bags up to 4.5 by 6.5 inches. Bag storage lockers operate near the stadium for Seahawks games. The stadium is cashless. Check the venue's current policy before you go.

Seahawks moments that shaped the franchise

The Seahawks played in the Kingdome from 1976 to 1999 and at the University of Washington's Husky Stadium in 2000 and 2001 while their new stadium was built. In the January 2011 playoffs, a 67-yard touchdown run against the New Orleans Saints in which the runner broke nine tackles set off a crowd reaction strong enough to register on a nearby seismometer, a play known as the Beast Quake.

The 2013 season brought the first title, a blowout of Denver in Super Bowl XLVIII, and the team returned to the Super Bowl the next season. The Super Bowl LX win in February 2026 gave the franchise its second championship. Lumen Field also hosted matches at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Team schedules are on the Seahawks' official site.
