The Blue Jays in brief: Canada's team since 1977
The Toronto Blue Jays play home games at Rogers Centre in downtown Toronto, at the foot of the CN Tower, with a regular season from late March or early April to late September and postseason games in October. The club joined the American League East as an expansion team in 1977 and won its first game, against the Chicago White Sox, on April 7 of that year.
Since the Montreal Expos moved to Washington after the 2004 season, the Blue Jays have been the only Canadian team in Major League Baseball, which gives them the largest home market in the sport: the entire country. That national following shows up on the road as well as at home.
- Championships: back-to-back World Series titles in 1992 (over the Atlanta Braves) and 1993 (over the Philadelphia Phillies). Toronto remains the only team based outside the United States to win a World Series.
- Pennants: American League champions in 1992, 1993 and 2025.
- Division titles: AL East champions in 1985, 1989, 1991, 1992, 1993, 2015 and 2025.
- Retired numbers: 32 (Roy Halladay, retired in 2018) and Jackie Robinson's 42, retired across the league. Other franchise greats are honored on the Level of Excellence, displayed on the 500 Level since 1996.
Where to sit at the rebuilt Rogers Centre
Rogers Centre opened as SkyDome on June 3, 1989, and was renamed after Rogers Communications bought the building. A two-phase renovation finished before the 2024 and 2025 seasons rebuilt most of the seating bowl and cut baseball capacity well below the old figure of more than 50,000. Sources differ on the new number: Wikipedia lists 39,150, while Ballparks of Baseball lists 41,500.
The three seating levels
- 100 Level: the lower bowl, rebuilt in the second phase so the infield seats now angle toward home plate instead of straight across the field, a fix for the multipurpose-stadium sightlines the building had for decades.
- 200 Level: the middle tier, home to club seating and suites, with a higher view that suits fans who want to see plays develop.
- 500 Level: the upper deck, the lowest-cost way into the building. All upper-deck seats were replaced with wider seats in the first renovation phase.
Dugouts and the infield
The Blue Jays use the third-base dugout, and visitors sit on the first-base side. Lower-level seats between the dugouts are the premium choice; the third-base side puts you closest to the home team. In the 500 Level, sections behind home plate are the best value in the building for reading pitches. The far upper-deck corners are a poor choice, because the steep angle and distance cost you the opposite outfield corner.
The outfield after the renovation
The first phase, completed before the 2023 season, rebuilt the outfield. Lower-level outfield seats moved closer to new outfield walls and were turned to face home plate, the bullpens were raised and ringed with bleacher seating, and several social spaces with bars and patios were added. Those social areas suit groups who want to move around; fans who want to keep score should buy a fixed seat instead. A hotel beyond the outfield wall has rooms with field views, a feature few other ballparks offer.
Roof and sun
The four-panel roof, noted as the first fully retractable motorized stadium roof, takes about 20 minutes to open or close. On cool spring nights and rainy days it is closed and every seat is weather-proof. On warm open-roof afternoons, upper rows sheltered by the deck above stay shaded longest; a seat high in the 100 Level under the 200 Level overhang is a sensible pick if you burn easily.
Season shape and the series that sell first
The Blue Jays train in February and March at TD Ballpark in Dunedin, Florida,. The regular season opens in late March or early April and runs to late September, with 81 home dates at Rogers Centre.
- Opening Day and the first homestand draw big crowds, and the roof makes an early-April game a safe bet in Toronto weather.
- The Yankees and Red Sox, both AL East opponents, visit several times each season and bring large contingents of traveling fans, which lifts demand across those series.
- Holiday and summer weekend dates, including a Canada Day (July 1) home game when the schedule has one, generally fill faster than April and May weeknights.
- Recent success matters: a pennant-winning season such as 2025 tends to raise demand for the following year's marquee dates.
For the best value, look at weeknight games in April, May and September against non-division opponents. Rivalry and holiday dates hold their resale prices; the softer dates tend to drift lower close to first pitch.
Getting to Rogers Centre
Rogers Centre is one of the easiest major ballparks to reach without a car. Its address is 1 Blue Jays Way, a short walk from Union Station, Toronto's main rail and subway hub.
- Union Station: the team's guide points fans to the Skywalk, an enclosed walkway with signage from the station to the stadium. GO Transit commuter trains and the TTC subway both serve Union.
- Streetcar: TTC streetcar stops on King Street at Peter and John streets, and on Spadina Avenue at Bremner Boulevard, are within walking distance.
- Parking: on-site underground parking is limited and first-come, first-served. Private garages in the downtown core fill on game nights, especially when a Maple Leafs or Raptors game is on at Scotiabank Arena a few blocks east.
Visitors from the United States should remember the border crossing and passport requirements when building a road trip. The ballpark sits in the heart of the downtown entertainment district, with restaurants along King Street West and Front Street within a few minutes on foot.
Entry rules, bags and payment
As of the 2026 season, the Blue Jays' ballpark guide sets these rules. Check the team's current Rogers Centre A-to-Z guide before you go, since policies change.
- Bags: no bag larger than 16 by 16 by 8 inches. Soft-sided bags such as purses are allowed; hard-sided coolers are not.
- Gates: 90 minutes before weekday games and two hours before Saturday and Sunday games.
- Payment: the building is cashless, with reverse ATMs that convert cash to a prepaid card on the concourses.
- Re-entry: not permitted, except with approval from fan services.
- Alcohol: anyone who appears to be 40 or younger is asked for photo identification with each purchase.
Every GoodSeats order includes guaranteed entry, so a ticket bought here gets you through the gate.
History and the moments fans still talk about

- 2015: the Blue Jays won the AL East for the first time in 22 years and beat the Texas Rangers in the Division Series.
- 2020 and 2021: pandemic border rules forced the team to play home games at Sahlen Field in Buffalo, New York, and TD Ballpark in Dunedin before returning to Toronto.
- 2025: Toronto won the AL East, beat the Seattle Mariners in a seven-game ALCS and took the Los Angeles Dodgers to seven games in the World Series before losing.
