Big Blue: a franchise from the league's early years
The New York Giants play home games at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, an open-air stadium of about 82,500 seats in the New Jersey Meadowlands, west of Manhattan. The NFL season runs from September into early January, with preseason games in August. The Giants share MetLife Stadium with the New York Jets, so the building hosts an NFL game most weekends of the fall.
Tim Mara founded the Giants on August 1, 1925, making them one of the oldest franchises in the league. The team has won eight league championships: four before the Super Bowl era (1927, 1934, 1938 and 1956) and four Super Bowls, after the 1986, 1990, 2007 and 2011 seasons. The Mara family and the Tisch family share ownership.
The Giants play in the NFC East, and their rivalries with the Eagles and Washington reach back to the early 1930s. The Cowboys rivalry is younger but draws as much demand as either.
Choosing seats at MetLife Stadium for Giants games
MetLife Stadium has three main seating tiers: the lower level (sections 101–149, some with letter suffixes such as 111C), the mezzanine (sections 201–250) and the upper level (sections 301–350).
- Giants sideline: the east side of the field, centered on sections 112–114. The Coaches Club seats (sections 111C–115C) sit directly behind the New York Giants bench and are the most expensive seats in the building.
- Visitor sideline: the west side, centered on sections 137–140.
- Mezzanine clubs: sections 207C–220C on the east side and 232C–245C on the west, with indoor club access. Mezzanine sideline seats are arguably the best overall views in the stadium: high enough to see formations, close enough to feel the game.
- Upper level: the least expensive seats. Sideline sections in the 300s between the 30-yard lines are a far better buy than upper end zone corners, which are a long way from the far goal line.
Low rows behind the benches look great on a seating map, but the players, coaches and sideline staff standing in front of you block much of the near side of the field. Rows 10 and up in the lower level clear that crowd.
Sun, wind and cold at an open-air stadium
MetLife has no roof, and Giants home games run from late summer into January, so weather shapes the seat choice more than at a domed stadium. The stadium runs roughly north to south, and the east sideline, where the New York Giants bench sits (lower sections 108–118 and mezzanine 208–219), stays in the sun longest during afternoon games. The west sideline and the south end zone fall into shade first.
The practical advice follows the calendar. In September, the west side is the more comfortable choice for a 1 p.m. kickoff. From late November onward, the sunny east side is the warmer side, and the upper rows of the stadium catch the wind off the Meadowlands. For night games late in the season, dress in layers whatever seat you buy.
The Giants games with the most demand
Each season brings eight or nine regular-season home games. Because MetLife also hosts the Jets, Giants home dates are spread around the Jets schedule, and Sunday afternoon is the most common slot. These games usually draw the most buyers:
- Division games: the Eagles and the Cowboys bring the largest traveling crowds, since both fan bases live within driving distance or travel heavily. Washington games carry a long history too.
- Prime-time games: Sunday, Monday and Thursday night games in the New York market get heavy attention.
- Opponents with national followings: teams such as the Packers, Steelers or 49ers.
- December games with playoff stakes: demand rises when the standings are close and falls when they are not.
Early-season games against non-division opponents and preseason games are usually the easiest tickets. Because Eagles and Cowboys fans buy into Giants home games in large numbers, expect plenty of road colors in the stands for those matchups, especially in the upper level.
Getting to the Meadowlands and gameday rules
MetLife Stadium is one of the few NFL stadiums with direct rail service. On event days, NJ Transit runs trains from Secaucus Junction to the Meadowlands Rail Station beside the stadium; riders from Penn Station New York or Hoboken change at Secaucus. Coach USA's 351 Meadowlands Express bus runs from the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan. Details are on the NJ Transit Meadowlands page.
- Leaving after the game: lines for trains back to Secaucus can be long. Leaving a few minutes early or waiting out the first rush both shorten the wait.
- Parking and tailgating: tailgating happens in designated lot areas in front of or behind one vehicle, and lots close two hours after the game, according to the stadium FAQ published by the Jets. Parking passes are typically required in advance.
- Bags: MetLife follows the NFL clear-bag policy (clear bags no larger than 12 by 12 by 6 inches, a one-gallon clear freezer bag or a small clutch about 4.5 by 6.5 inches). The stadium is smoke-free.
These policies were current as of the 2025 season; check the stadium's current rules before you go. Every GoodSeats order includes guaranteed entry.
Giants history, from the Polo Grounds to the Meadowlands
The Giants played at the Polo Grounds in Manhattan from 1925 to 1955, then at Yankee Stadium from 1956 to 1973. After brief stays at the Yale Bowl and Shea Stadium, they moved to Giants Stadium in the Meadowlands in 1976. MetLife Stadium, built in Giants Stadium's parking lot, opened in 2010.
- The Sneakers Game: the 1934 championship, won on an icy field and named for the footwear change that helped the New York Giants get traction.
- The Greatest Game Ever Played: the 1958 NFL Championship Game, a Giants loss that is still remembered as a turning point for the league's popularity.
- Super Bowl XLII: the upset of the previously unbeaten Patriots after the 2007 season, remembered for the Manning-to-Tyree catch.
