The Cardinals in brief: the National League's most decorated club
The St. Louis Cardinals play home games at Busch Stadium in downtown St. Louis, and the regular season runs from late March or early April through late September. The franchise began in 1882 as the St. Louis Brown Stockings of the American Association, joined the National League in 1892 and took the Cardinals name in 1900, reportedly after fans admired the shade of red on the uniforms.
No National League team has won more World Series. The Cardinals have 11 titles (1926, 1931, 1934, 1942, 1944, 1946, 1964, 1967, 1982, 2006 and 2011) and 19 NL pennants, the third-most in baseball history. The Hall of Fame roll includes Rogers Hornsby, Dizzy Dean, Stan Musial, Bob Gibson, Lou Brock and Ozzie Smith.
Two rivalries define the calendar: the Chicago Cubs, a National League rival for more than a century, and the Kansas City Royals in the cross-state I-70 Series. The fan base is known for strong attendance across the Midwest, and red fills road ballparks from Chicago to Denver.
Busch Stadium: a downtown ballpark facing the skyline
The current Busch Stadium hosted its first Major League game on April 10, 2006, replacing Busch Memorial Stadium (1966–2005), and the Cardinals won the World Series in its first season. Wikipedia lists capacity at 44,383, up from 37,962 on opening day. The field is natural grass, with the downtown skyline and the Gateway Arch visible beyond the outfield.
The bowl is organized into three broad areas:
- Field level: the lower bowl, about 16,900 seats, wrapping from foul pole to foul pole.
- Terrace level: the upper deck, about 9,150 seats, with the widest views of the Arch and skyline.
- Bleachers: about 3,660 seats in left and right field.
Club, suite and mid-level seats sit between the field and terrace levels. Beyond center field, Ballpark Village (opened in 2014 on the old stadium footprint) holds restaurants, the Cardinals Hall of Fame Museum and rooftop seats roughly 500 feet from home plate.
For the deeper layout, see the Cardinals ballpark guide and the Busch Stadium venue page.
Picking a Cardinals seat: dugouts, shade, the terrace and the bleachers
Infield and the dugouts
The Cardinals use the first-base dugout, so the sections behind it and along the first-base line carry the most home-crowd demand. The third-base side, behind the visitors' dugout, often costs less for a similar distance from the plate. Mid-rows of the field level between the dugouts are the best all-around seats; the very front rows trade height for proximity and put netting and the dugout roofs in your sightline.
Heat and shade
St. Louis summers are hot and humid, and day games in July and August are the hardest tickets to enjoy. Seats in the back rows of each level, under the overhang of the deck above, offer the most reliable shade. The bleachers and the front of the field level are fully exposed. For a day game, pay for the overhang or pick a night game instead.
The terrace value
The terrace level behind home plate and along the infield gives a complete view of the field with the Arch beyond center. It is the strongest value in the building for fans who care about watching the whole play develop.
Bleachers and foul poles
The left- and right-field bleachers are the place for home-run balls and a louder crowd, but you lose depth on balls in play near the plate. Seats tight to the foul poles in the outfield corners angle away from the infield; a few sections toward center are the better choice.
The Cardinals calendar and the games that sell first
The club trains each February and March at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter, Florida. The 162-game regular season runs from late March or early April through late September, with the postseason in October for qualifying teams.
- Opening Day is a civic event in St. Louis and is typically the hardest regular-season ticket.
- Cubs series, especially on summer weekends, bring large numbers of Chicago fans down Interstate 55 and drive up resale demand.
- Royals I-70 Series dates draw fans from across Missouri.
- Holiday dates such as Memorial Day weekend and the Fourth of July combine family crowds with fireworks or promotions.
- Bobblehead and giveaway nights sell faster than the same opponent on a plain weeknight.
Weeknight games in April, May and September against out-of-division teams are usually the easiest seats to find, and resale listings for those dates tend to drop as first pitch approaches.
Getting downtown, entry rules and gameday at Ballpark Village
Busch Stadium sits at 700 Clark Avenue. MetroLink, the region's light rail, serves the ballpark at Stadium station on the Red and Blue lines, next to the 8th Street side of the stadium. As of the 2026 season, the Cardinals note that MetroLink normally runs until about midnight, which covers most night games.
For drivers, the team sells game-day parking at lots and garages including the All-Star Lot and the One Cardinal Way Garage, with passes delivered digitally through the MLB Ballpark app as of the 2026 season. Private garages fill the surrounding blocks.
As of the 2026 season, the Cardinals allow bags, purses and soft-sided coolers up to 10 by 8 by 10 inches. Gates open 90 minutes before game time Monday through Thursday and two hours before Friday through Sunday, and all stadium purchases are cashless. Check the current policy before you go.
Ballpark Village is the pregame gathering spot, with bars, the team museum and watch areas. Many fans meet at the Stan Musial statue outside Gate 3, beside the entry built to echo the Eads Bridge. Every GoodSeats order includes guaranteed entry.
Following the Cardinals on the road
Cardinals fans travel well, and the club's Midwest footprint makes road trips easy. Wrigley Field is the classic trip up Interstate 55, and red-clad crowds are common there. Kansas City's Kauffman Stadium for the I-70 Series, Milwaukee and Cincinnati are all reasonable drives. Spring training in Jupiter, Florida, draws snowbird fans each March to Roger Dean Stadium for a closer look at the club in a smaller ballpark.
