Dates and live ticket listings appear here as soon as they are on sale. The guide below covers what to know before you buy.
A founding franchise and three championships
The New York Knicks play their home games at Madison Square Garden in Midtown Manhattan, with a regular season that runs from late October to mid-April and playoffs that can run into June. They compete in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference with the Boston Celtics, Brooklyn Nets, Philadelphia 76ers and Toronto Raptors.
Ned Irish founded the club in 1946 as a charter member of the Basketball Association of America, which merged with the National Basketball League in 1949 to form the NBA. The Knicks reached the Finals three years running from 1951 to 1953 and lost all three. Their first titles came in 1970 and 1973, both against the Los Angeles Lakers, with teams built around Willis Reed, Walt Frazier and a passing style still held up as a model of team basketball.
The third title took 53 years. The Knicks won the 2025 NBA Cup, the league's in-season tournament, and then beat the San Antonio Spurs four games to one in the 2026 Finals, clinching with a 94–90 win in San Antonio on June 13, 2026. Jalen Brunson was named Finals MVP. The team is owned by Madison Square Garden Sports. Check the team's site for the current roster before you buy.
How the Garden is stacked for basketball
The current Madison Square Garden, the fourth arena to carry the name, opened on February 11, 1968, at 4 Pennsylvania Plaza, directly above Penn Station. It seats 19,812 for Knicks games and was rebuilt from the inside during a renovation completed in stages from 2011 to 2013. The building is round, so the seating reads as stacked rings rather than a long oval:
- Courtside, the floor-level rows famous for celebrity sightings and priced as a luxury product.
- The 100 level (the lower bowl, sections numbered in the 100s), running to about row 22.
- The 200 level (the upper bowl, sections numbered in the 200s), climbing to about row 25.
- The Chase Bridges, two suspended walkways about 94 feet above the floor with two rows of seats looking straight down.
- The Blue Seats (400-numbered sections), short, high sections with a long history as the home of the most vocal fans.
Seating guides publish conflicting bench locations for the Garden, so check the seat map on your listing for which sideline holds the Knicks bench.
Where to sit for a Knicks game
Sideline 100s
The center-court 100-level sections, which seating guides identify as 106 to 108 and 116 to 118, are the best seats in the arena after courtside. Rows 5 to 15 clear the scorer's table and the media positions along the floor while keeping you close enough to hear players and coaches. They also carry the steepest prices outside courtside, so decide in advance how much proximity is worth to you.
Baseline 100s
The low rows behind the baskets are the weakest lower-bowl seats: the stanchion and glass sit in your sightline, and the far end of the floor loses depth. They work for a fan who wants to be close to one end, not for one who wants to follow every possession.
The 200 level
For most fans the smartest buy is the front half of a center-court 200 section, such as 210 to 212 or 223 to 225. The angle shows spacing and defensive rotations clearly, and the center-hung scoreboard sits near eye level. The back rows of the 200s are high; they show the whole floor but little of the players.
Bridges and Blue Seats
The Chase Bridge view is a novelty: memorable once, but it flattens the game, and some second-row seats lose part of the scoreboard. In the Blue Seats, guides advise avoiding rows 5 to 7, which can carry obstructions.
Which Knicks games cost the most
The NBA schedule follows a fixed shape: preseason in early October, an 82-game regular season (41 home games) from late October to mid-April, the play-in tournament, and four playoff rounds from mid-April into June. NBA Cup group games in November and December count in the standings.
Knicks tickets carry some of the highest demand in the league, and a defending champion only adds to it. A few factors push prices higher still:
- Old rivals. The Boston Celtics and the Indiana Pacers, whose 1990s playoff battles with Reggie Miller and whose 2024 seven-game series win still resonate, along with the Miami Heat and Chicago Bulls, draw the loudest nights.
- The crosstown Nets. Games against the Brooklyn Nets bring both fan bases into one building.
- Weekends and holidays. Saturday nights, Christmas Day games when the league schedules them at the Garden, and the holiday weeks when the city fills with visitors sell fastest.
- The playoffs. Postseason games at the Garden are among the hardest tickets in the league to find, and prices climb sharply round by round.
Midweek games against Western Conference teams out of the playoff race are usually the most accessible way in. Every GoodSeats order is backed by a 100% guarantee.
Getting to MSG and getting inside
Driving to a Knicks game is the slowest option. Penn Station sits directly below the arena, served by the Long Island Rail Road, NJ Transit and Amtrak. The 34th Street–Penn Station subway stops serve the A, C and E trains on Eighth Avenue and the 1, 2 and 3 on Seventh Avenue, and PATH trains from New Jersey end at 33rd Street, two blocks away. The arena has no parking garage of its own and points drivers to reserve nearby garage space through SpotHero. After a sellout, walk a few blocks from the building before requesting a rideshare.
As of fall 2026, the Garden's posted rules include the following. Check the Madison Square Garden FAQ before you go, because these policies change.
- Bags: they do not need to be clear, but anything larger than 22 by 14 by 9 inches is refused, every bag is x-rayed, and there is no bag or coat check.
- Tickets: digital; load them on your phone before you arrive.
- Payments: concessions are cashless.
- Re-entry: not allowed; leaving ends your night.
Your ticket names the entrance assigned to your section, and using it usually shortens the security line.
Reed's walk, Ewing's era and the long wait
The best-known moment in franchise history came in Game 7 of the 1970 Finals, when an injured Willis Reed walked onto the Garden floor and hit the Knicks' first two baskets in a 113–99 win over the Lakers. Reed that season became the first player to win All-Star Game MVP, league MVP and Finals MVP in the same year. After a Finals loss to the Lakers in 1972, the Knicks beat them again in 1973.
The Patrick Ewing teams of the 1990s, built after the Knicks drafted him first overall in 1985, made the franchise a physical, defense-first contender. They lost the 1994 Finals to the Houston Rockets in seven games, and in 1999 became the first eighth seed to reach the Finals before falling to the San Antonio Spurs. The 2026 championship, won against the same franchise, ended the 53-year wait. Schedules and team news are on the Knicks' official site.
