The Phillies in brief: one name, one city since 1883
The Philadelphia Phillies play home games at Citizens Bank Park in the South Philadelphia Sports Complex, from late March or early April through late September, with postseason games in October. The franchise was established in 1883 and has carried the Phillies name since its founding. It has played in the National League the entire time and in the NL East since 1969.
Philadelphia has won two World Series, in 1980 over the Kansas City Royals and in 2008 over the Tampa Bay Rays. Its eight NL pennants came in 1915, 1950, 1980, 1983, 1993, 2008, 2009 and 2022.
- Division titles: 13 NL East crowns, including five straight from 2007 to 2011 and back-to-back titles in 2024 and 2025.
- The greatest Phillie: Hall of Fame third baseman Mike Schmidt is widely considered the franchise's best player.
- Retired numbers: 1, 14, 15, 20, 32, 34 and 36, plus honorees from the era before uniform numbers.
- Rivals: the New York Mets above all, with the Atlanta Braves, Washington Nationals and cross-state Pittsburgh Pirates close behind.
- The mascot: the Phillie Phanatic, who dances on the Phillies dugout during the seventh inning.
Where to sit at Citizens Bank Park for a Phillies game
Citizens Bank Park seats 42,901, according to Wikipedia. It has three main tiers: the 100 level (Field Level), the 200 level (mostly the Cadillac Hall of Fame Club, above the suites) and the upper deck, split into the 300 level (Terrace) and the 400 level (Terrace Deck). Past a gap down the right field line, the outfield sections become the Pavilion and Pavilion Deck.
The dugouts and the infield
The Phillies dugout is on the first base side and the visitors use the third base side, according to both Ballparks of Baseball and Ballpark E-Guides. The cushioned Philadelphia Insurance Club seats behind home plate (lettered sections A through G) are the most expensive in the park. Behind them, the Field Level has a gentle incline, so nearly any 100-level seat between the bases is a strong choice. Prices drop noticeably a section or two farther from the plate, and that is often the smartest trade.
Seats to think twice about
- The foul pole sections: the corners near the poles can put the pole in your view; Section 205 in the 200 level carries the same risk.
- The top rows of the infield 100s: an overhang covers them, which helps with shade and rain, but on the third base side it can block the left field scoreboard.
- The Rooftop Bleachers: backless metal benches below the Liberty Bell, usually the lowest-priced seats in the park and the farthest from the plate, with part of right field hidden.
The outfield and the upper deck
Outfield seats put you steps from Ashburn Alley, the food and fan promenade behind center field, and Sections 101 and 102 sit right above the bullpens. The 400 level is steep and high; Sections 419 to 422 behind the plate give the best panoramic view of the field and the skyline. If climbing is hard for you, choose the 300 level, which has fewer steps and fewer rows to cross.
Sun, shade and the 400 level roof
The sun sets on the third base side at Citizens Bank Park, so the first base side and right field take the most sun, and for the longest stretch of a day game. That matters in July and August, when Philadelphia afternoons are hot and humid.
- Best shade: the upper rows of the 400 level, where a roof covers roughly the top six or seven rows; Ballpark E-Guides suggests row 9 or higher.
- Third base side: shade arrives here first, in both the upper deck and the covered top rows of the 100 level.
- Right field: the left field scoreboard can shade low right field sections such as 101 and 201 late in the day, but most of right field bakes.
- Club seats: most are not shaded, though the Cadillac Hall of Fame Club ticket includes an air-conditioned lounge.
For a night game the sun matters only in the first innings, and on a cool April or late September night the shaded seats can feel cold.
The schedule and the Phillies games that sell first
Each MLB team plays 162 regular-season games, 81 at home. Spring training runs in February and March at BayCare Ballpark in Clearwater, Florida. The regular season runs from late March or early April to late September, with the All-Star break in mid-July, and the postseason follows in October. Under the balanced schedule MLB adopted in 2023, Philadelphia plays each NL East rival 13 times.
- The Mets: the most intense regular-season series of the year and a reliable sellout risk on weekends.
- The Braves: a long-running NL East rivalry with 13 meetings a season.
- Interleague visits from the Yankees: draw heavy demand when they appear on the schedule.
- Opening Day and summer weekends: Friday and Saturday games from June through August, especially with fireworks or giveaways, go first.
- October: Philadelphia's postseason crowds are famously loud, and playoff demand sits far above anything in the regular season.
Weeknight games in April, May and September are usually the easiest tickets, and a less prominent opponent on a Tuesday is the best time to try the Club levels.
SEPTA, parking and tailgating at the Sports Complex
Citizens Bank Park sits at One Citizens Bank Way, next to Lincoln Financial Field and Xfinity Mobile Arena.
- SEPTA subway: take the B (Broad Street) line south to NRG station, the end of the line, then walk about five minutes. Sports Express trains run on game days and skip intermediate stops.
- Buses: SEPTA routes 4 and 17 also serve the Sports Complex.
- Driving: large surface lots surround the park; buy a parking pass in advance through the MLB Ballpark app when you can.
Philadelphia is one of the few ballparks with a real tailgating scene. As of the 2026 season, the Phillies permit tailgating in lots A through H and M through O, which open five hours before the scheduled start; non-tailgating lots open three hours before. Tailgating is not allowed west of Darien Street or north of Pattison Avenue. Confirm the current rules with the Phillies ballpark guide before you go.
Bag rules and entry at Citizens Bank Park
As of the 2026 season, the Phillies use a clear-bag policy:

- Prohibited: non-clear bags, backpacks and drawstring bags.
- Tickets: mobile tickets in the MLB Ballpark app; screenshots are not accepted.
- Payment: the ballpark is cashless.
The First Base, Third Base and Left Field gates have hands-free Go-Ahead Entry lanes for fans who register in the app. Policies change, so check the current Phillies bag policy before you leave. Every GoodSeats order is backed by a 100% guarantee.
