A charter franchise with seven titles across two coasts

The Golden State Warriors play their home games at Chase Center in San Francisco's Mission Bay neighborhood, with an NBA regular season that runs from October into April and playoffs after that. The team competes in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference.

The franchise is one of the oldest in the league. It began in 1946 as the Philadelphia Warriors, a charter member of the Basketball Association of America (the league that became the NBA), and won that league's first championship in 1947. Its seven titles span three distinct eras:

  • Philadelphia (1947 and 1956): the original franchise, which moved to the Bay Area in 1962.
  • Oakland (1975): a four-game sweep of the Washington Bullets, widely called one of the biggest upsets in NBA history, with Rick Barry as Finals MVP.
  • The modern run (2015, 2017, 2018 and 2022): four titles in eight years, plus the 2015–16 team's 73–9 record, the best regular season in league history.

The name changed to Golden State in 1971, when the team moved across the bay to Oakland and chose a name meant to represent all of California. Rosters and coaches change, so check the team's site for the current lineup before buying around a particular player.

Chase Center and how its bowl is laid out

Chase Center opened on September 6, 2019, ending 48 years in Oakland. It seats 18,064 for basketball and is privately financed. The Warriors share it with the WNBA's Golden State Valkyries, who began play in 2025.

The bowl has two main rings with premium seating set between them:

  • Courtside and low premium sections along the floor, numbered separately from the main bowl.
  • The 100 level (sections 101–124), the lower bowl wrapping the court.
  • Suites, courtside lounges and theater boxes (small premium boxes along the sidelines), including suites set between the two rings.
  • The 200 level (sections 201–225), the upper bowl.

Section numbers come from seating guides used for orientation; confirm the exact section on the listing's seat map before you buy.

Best seats for a Warriors game, and the ones to skip

Lower bowl sideline

Center-court sections of the 100 level draw the heaviest demand. The sweet spot is roughly rows 8 to 15, high enough to see over the benches and courtside rows while staying close to the floor. Row 1 behind courtside looks premium on a map, but you watch the game at the same height as standing players.

Behind the baskets

Lower baseline seats are the place to watch shooters and drives coming at you, and they cost less in demand terms than the sideline. They are a poor choice for judging the far end of the court. Corner sections sit between the two and usually carry less demand than center court.

The 200 level for value

The upper bowl is steep and pulled in close, so the front rows of the 200 level along the sidelines see the whole floor clearly. For a first visit on a budget, those rows usually beat a deep corner seat downstairs. The last rows of the 200-level corners are the farthest seats in the building and the ones to avoid if you have a choice.

Club and theater boxes

The premium spaces between the rings give the flattest, most direct angle in the building. They suit corporate outings and special occasions; the view itself is excellent, but you pay for the amenities as much as the sightline.

Warriors schedule shape and the games that sell first

The NBA regular season runs from October to April, 82 games with 41 at home. Preseason games come first in October, and the play-in tournament and playoffs run from April into June for teams that qualify.

Warriors games have drawn strong demand since the championship run began, and a few patterns stand out:

  • Christmas Day and holiday games: the league has played on Christmas every year since 1947, and holiday dates draw families and visitors.
  • NBA Cup games in November and December, which count toward the standings and add stakes early in the season.
  • Rivals and history: the Los Angeles Lakers, the Cleveland Cavaliers (the opponent in four straight Finals from 2015 to 2018) and the Houston Rockets (four playoff series between 2015 and 2019) bring extra intensity.
  • Weekend games draw families and visitors, while weeknight games against Eastern Conference opponents without a star draw are usually the easiest to find.

Playoff home games sit in a different demand tier entirely, and prices tend to move as each series takes shape.

Getting to Mission Bay and arena entry rules

Transit is the easiest way to reach Chase Center. As of the 2025–26 season, the Muni T Third Street line stops at UCSF/Chase Center steps from the arena, and an event ticket serves as Muni fare that day. Ferries serve the Mission Bay landing at Pier 48 1/2 for Warriors games, and Caltrain's 4th and King station is about a 15- to 20-minute walk. Rideshare pickups line Terry A. Francois Boulevard and 16th Street, and surge pricing after a full house is common.

Bags may be no larger than 14 by 14 by 6 inches, backpacks are not allowed except single-compartment drawstring bags, there is no re-entry, and doors typically open 90 to 120 minutes before tipoff. Check the arena's A to Z guide for the current policy before you go.

There is no tailgating at Chase Center. Instead, Thrive City, the plaza outside the arena, has restaurants and gathering space, and arriving early to eat there avoids the busiest concourse lines. Every order on this site includes free shipping and a 100% guarantee.

Notable moments in Warriors history

  • March 2, 1962: Wilt Chamberlain, playing for the Philadelphia Warriors, scored 100 points in a game.
  • 1975: the sweep of Washington for the franchise's first West Coast title.
  • 2007: the "We Believe" Warriors, an eighth seed, upset the top-seeded Dallas Mavericks in the first round.
  • 2015–2018: four consecutive Finals against Cleveland, with titles in 2015, 2017 and 2018.
  • 2022: a championship over the Boston Celtics, the first won by a team based at Chase Center.

The team has also played home games at the Cow Palace, the San Francisco Civic Auditorium, the Oakland arena later known as Oracle Arena, and for one season (1996–97) in San Jose. The Warriors have retired seven numbers. Team history is covered on the Warriors' official site.
