A December bowl on the Grand Strand
The Myrtle Beach Bowl is a college football bowl game played each December at Brooks Stadium, the home of Coastal Carolina University football in Conway, South Carolina, inland from Myrtle Beach. The seventh edition is scheduled for Monday, December 21, 2026, at 11 a.m. Eastern, televised on ESPN.
The bowl is owned and run by ESPN Events, which operates 17 bowl games. Its tie-ins are with three conferences: Conference USA, the Mid-American Conference (MAC) and the Sun Belt. For 2026, the bowl says the matchup will feature teams from two of those three leagues, with the teams named after bowl selections in December. Tie-ins can change from one bowl cycle to the next, so confirm the conferences when the matchup is announced. The 2025 game paired two conference champions: MAC champion Western Michigan and Conference USA champion Kennesaw State.
Tickets, timing and what drives demand
As of fall 2026, the bowl says tickets for the 2026 game will go on sale to the general public in December, after the teams are announced. That leaves a window of roughly two weeks between the matchup and kickoff.
- Matchup first: demand depends almost entirely on which two schools are picked. A program within driving distance of the coast, or one making a rare bowl trip, brings more fans.
- The host school factor: Coastal Carolina played in the 2024 game, which drew 8,164, and a home team in its own stadium changes the crowd.
- Weekday timing: the 2026 game falls on a Monday morning, the week of Christmas, which favors fans already traveling for the holidays.
Attendance has ranged from 5,000 in 2020 to 12,023 for Marshall and UConn in 2022. In a stadium of about 20,000, most bowl crowds leave seats available, so the main question is location rather than access. The sideline seats near the 50-yard line on the main, two-level side draw the most interest. Every GoodSeats order is backed by a 100% guarantee.
Brooks Stadium and where to sit
Brooks Stadium opened in 2003 and is best known for its teal artificial turf, which Coastal Carolina calls the Surf Turf. The stadium grew in two phases: to 15,000 seats in 2017, then to about 20,000 in 2019, when a second level and premium suites were added on the west side. Coastal Carolina lists capacity at about 20,000, while other sources cite 21,000; the stadium's record crowd is 22,217, set in September 2025.
- West sideline: the larger side, with the upper level and suites. Seats between the 30-yard lines here are the best all-around view, and the upper rows add height for watching plays develop.
- East sideline: the opposite side from the suites and upper level. Seats between the 30-yard lines still give a full sideline view; check the bowl's seating map for the exact sections offered.
- Corners and end zones: the 2017 expansion added seats in the corners at the field house end. These are closer but see the far end of the field at a flat angle.
- Student section: during the season, Coastal Carolina's student section, the Chantourage, sits in front of the field house. For a bowl, seating is assigned by the bowl, so check the seating map once teams are announced.
With an 11 a.m. kickoff in late December, the sun stays low all game. Sunglasses help on either sideline, and a layer is worth bringing for a morning game.
Gameday logistics in Conway
Brooks Stadium is on the Coastal Carolina campus at 540 University Blvd. in Conway, part of the Myrtle Beach metro area. U.S. Routes 501, 701 and 378 pass through Conway, and a car is the practical way to reach the stadium from beach-area hotels. Myrtle Beach International Airport, about 3 miles southwest of downtown Myrtle Beach, has service from several airlines, including Southwest, Delta and American.
- Tailgating: the bowl says tailgating is permitted on campus. Check the bowl's parking map for lot locations.
- Bag policy: as of the 2026 bowl information, the stadium allows clear plastic, vinyl or PVC bags up to 12 by 6 by 12 inches, a one-gallon clear freezer bag, or a small clutch up to 4.5 by 6.5 inches. Backpacks, fanny packs and camera bags are not allowed.
- Prohibited items: the list includes umbrellas, strollers, coolers, outside food and drink, and noisemakers.
Rules can change from year to year, so read the current stadium and bag policies before you go.

In 2025, Western Michigan running back Jalen Buckley ran 65 yards for a touchdown on the first play from scrimmage, finished with 174 rushing yards and was named MVP. The Broncos led 27–0 after one quarter, and the win gave the MAC champions a bowl title as well.
How the bowl came to South Carolina
For years, the NCAA did not hold championship events, including bowl games, in South Carolina because the Confederate flag flew on the State House grounds; that restriction was lifted in July 2015. A planned bowl in 2016 stalled when the NCAA paused new bowls. In June 2018 the NCAA approved the Grand Strand for a bowl, and ESPN Events announced the Myrtle Beach Bowl on November 13, 2018. In the 2017–18 season, three bowl-eligible teams from the MAC and Conference USA had been left without a bowl, which helped make the case for a new game.
The game debuted in December 2020. It played without a title sponsor for its first five years; in 2025 it was the Myrtle Beach Bowl presented by Engine, a business travel company, a one-season arrangement. The bowl is one of a few that have never released team payouts.
