Upcoming Abu Dhabi Grand Prix dates
Dates and live ticket listings appear here as soon as they are on sale. The guide below covers what to know before you buy.
The race that closes the Formula 1 season
The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is the final round of the Formula 1 World Championship, held each year in late November or early December at Yas Marina Circuit on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. The 2026 race weekend runs December 3 to 6, with the race on Sunday, December 6. Abu Dhabi signed an agreement in December 2021 that keeps it as the season finale through 2030.
The race has a format of its own. The first Grand Prix here, on November 1, 2009, was Formula 1's first day-night race: it started at 5 p.m. local time and finished under permanent floodlights, which the circuit describes as the largest permanent sports-venue lighting project in the world. The race still starts in late-afternoon light and ends in darkness, which is the main visual reason fans travel for it.
Being the finale gives the weekend its character. When a title is still undecided, the race decides it. When it is settled, the weekend turns into a celebration and a farewell for drivers, teams and cars leaving the sport.
Yas Marina Circuit and its grandstands
Yas Marina Circuit was designed by Hermann Tilke and opened in October 2009. The Grand Prix layout was shortened before the 2021 race, from 5.554 km and 21 turns to 5.281 km and 16 turns, with simplified turns, widened corners and new banking added at Turn 9 to improve overtaking. The race runs 58 laps. The circuit lists capacity at about 60,000.
Distinctive features you will see from the stands:
- The hotel over the track. The W Abu Dhabi – Yas Island hotel, designed by Asymptote Architecture, straddles part of the circuit.
- The pit-exit tunnel. The pit lane exit runs underneath the track, so cars rejoin out of sight of most grandstands.
- The long straight. A straight of about 1.2 km between Turns 5 and 6 is the circuit's main overtaking zone, with heavy braking at the end of it.
Grandstand seating is organized into five areas: Main, West, North, South and Marina. Names and sections can change from year to year, so compare the current circuit map on the official site before choosing.
Choosing a grandstand
There is no single best seat at Yas Marina; each area trades one view for another. A few principles hold:
- Main grandstand. At most F1 circuits the main grandstand sits on the start-finish straight, facing the pit lane. Confirm on the current map that it covers the start and the pit lane before paying a premium for it.
- Braking zones. Seats overlooking the end of the long straight into the Turn 6 area put you where overtakes are most likely. If on-track action matters more than ceremony, this is the area to target.
- The marina and hotel section. Seats near the marina and the hotel give the setting the race is known for: yachts, the hotel and the cars running under it after sunset. They show slower, more technical corners, not overtaking.
- Big screens. At any F1 circuit, you see a few hundred meters of a 5 km lap. Check that your grandstand faces a screen so you can follow the race order.
Since the race is held in early December, the heat is gentler than in the Gulf's summer, but the afternoon sun is still strong before the race. Sunglasses and a hat matter for the early sessions.
How race tickets and after-race concerts work
Tickets are sold through the event's own site, with Ticketmaster as its ticketing partner. For 2026, the organizer offers 3-day and 4-day tickets, covering the Thursday through Sunday program. Prices are set by grandstand and by ticket length, so compare the same days when weighing two areas.
The after-race concerts are part of what you are buying. General admission to the concerts is limited to Grand Prix ticket holders, with Golden Circle upgrades for a closer standing area. The announced 2026 lineup includes:
- Thursday: Zara Larsson and Lewis Capaldi
- Friday: Alex Warren (the first confirmed artist)
- Saturday: Imagine Dragons
- Sunday: The Chainsmokers and The Script
Lineups are announced in stages, so check the official Abu Dhabi GP site for the current list. Demand on the resale market peaks when the championship goes to the final race, and it usually focuses on Sunday and the main straight. Saturday qualifying, with a major headline act after the session, is often the better value day.
Planning a trip to Yas Island
Yas Island is a resort district on the edge of Abu Dhabi, and race weekend fits around it. Some practical notes:
- Stay on or near the island. Hotels close to the circuit fill early. The organizer has offered hotel add-ons at checkout for the 2026 race.
- Plan around the evening. Sessions run into the evening and the concerts follow. Expect long days and late finishes, and plan transport back to your hotel before you arrive.
- Use the ticket perks. For 2026, the organizer says race tickets include free entry and discounts at selected Abu Dhabi attractions.
Transport arrangements, bag rules and age policies are set for each event. Check the circuit's official site for the current year's guidance before you go.
Title deciders and recent winners
Abu Dhabi's spot at the end of the calendar has made it the stage for some of the sport's biggest moments:
- 2009: Sebastian Vettel won the first Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
- 2010: Vettel won here again to clinch his first world championship.
- 2021: Max Verstappen won the race and his first drivers' title after a disputed safety-car restart on the final lap, ahead of Lewis Hamilton. It remains one of the most debated finishes in Formula 1.
Recent winners show how one driver has shaped the race: Hamilton in 2019, Verstappen in each year from 2020 to 2023, Lando Norris in 2024 and Verstappen again in 2025.
