Is the LA Bowl still played?

No. The LA Bowl, a college football bowl game held at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, ended after its fifth game, Washington's 38–10 win over Boise State on December 13, 2025. There is no LA Bowl on the 2026–27 bowl schedule. The end was first reported in December 2025, days before that final game, and organizers confirmed it in early 2026; reports date the formal announcement differently, between mid-January and early February. The organizers' statement said that after five years the LA Bowl at SoFi Stadium would no longer be moving forward.

That means any listing for a 2026 LA Bowl should be treated with caution. College football still comes to the Los Angeles area in the postseason, most famously at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, and SoFi Stadium continues to host NFL games, concerts and other major events.

What the game was and why it ended

The Mountain West Conference and the Pac-12 announced the bowl in July 2019 as a five-year partnership, and the game was unveiled in February 2020. Its formula was simple: the Mountain West champion (or the next-highest available team, if the champion earned a bigger bowl) against the fifth Pac-12 selection, with a West Coast audience and an NFL stadium as the stage. StadCo LA, the stadium's operating company, ran the event.

Conference realignment undid that formula. When ten schools left the Pac-12 in 2024 for the Big Ten, Big 12 and ACC, the conference could no longer supply the matchup on its own. Under the agreement, the departed legacy schools filled the Pac-12 slot through the 2025 season, which is how Washington, by then a Big Ten member, ended up in the final game. With the contract complete and the original pairing gone, the bowl was not renewed.

Results and attendance, 2021 to 2025

The first game was scheduled for December 30, 2020, but was canceled during the COVID-19 pandemic, so the bowl debuted in December 2021. All five games were played in mid-December:

  • December 18, 2021: Utah State 24, Oregon State 13, before 29,896.
  • December 17, 2022: Fresno State 29, Washington State 6, before 32,405.
  • December 16, 2023: UCLA 35, Boise State 22, before 32,780, the largest LA Bowl crowd.
  • December 18, 2024: UNLV 24, California 13, before 24,420.
  • December 13, 2025: Washington 38, Boise State 10, before 23,269.

The pattern is typical of a newer bowl in a large stadium. A local school such as UCLA drew the biggest crowd, and attendance never approached SoFi Stadium's standard capacity of about 70,000. The final game still drew a national television audience reported at 3.8 million viewers.

Naming sponsors and the hosts

The LA Bowl was known as much for its celebrity hosts as for its sponsors:

  • 2021–2022: the Jimmy Kimmel LA Bowl presented by Stifel, with the late-night host attached to the name.
  • 2023: the Starco Brands LA Bowl Hosted by Gronk, after former NFL tight end Rob Gronkowski took over as host.
  • 2024: the Art of Sport LA Bowl Hosted by Gronk.
  • 2025: the Bucked Up LA Bowl Hosted by Gronk.

The rotating title sponsors and the host branding gave the young bowl a profile in a crowded December television schedule, but they could not replace a stable conference pairing.

What watching a game at SoFi Stadium was like

SoFi Stadium opened in September 2020 as the home of the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers. A translucent canopy covers the stadium, but the sides are open, so the building feels outdoors while staying out of the rain and direct sun. The Infinity Screen, a double-sided video board suspended over the field and weighing about 2.2 million pounds, means even upper-level fans see replays clearly.

For a bowl crowd of 23,000 to 33,000, the lower bowl along the sidelines held most of the fans, with each school's supporters gathered behind its bench. For NFL games and the other college events the stadium still hosts, the same advice holds: rows 15 and up in the lower sideline sections see over the bench area, and the upper sideline seats near midfield are the value choice. The SoFi Stadium guide on this site covers the full layout.

College football in Los Angeles after the LA Bowl

The end of the LA Bowl leaves Southern California with fewer December bowl options. For postseason college football in the region, consider:

  • The Rose Bowl: the region's best-known bowl, played at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena.
  • The Holiday Bowl: played in San Diego at Snapdragon Stadium, to the south, scheduled for December 28, 2026.
  • The Las Vegas Bowl: a short flight away, played at Allegiant Stadium.
