Upcoming Tampa Bay Lightning dates
Dates and live ticket listings appear here as soon as they are on sale. The guide below covers what to know before you buy.
The Lightning in brief: a Sun Belt team with three Cups
The Tampa Bay Lightning play home games at Benchmark International Arena, 401 Channelside Drive in downtown Tampa, from October through mid-April, with playoff games after that. The arena seats 19,092 for hockey. It opened as the Ice Palace in 1996 and was known as Amalie Arena from 2014 until August 13, 2025, when the current naming deal took effect, so many fans and older maps still use the Amalie name.
The NHL awarded the franchise on December 6, 1990, to a group led by Hall of Famer Phil Esposito, and the team began play in 1992–93. It plays in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference and has become one of the league's most successful clubs of the past two decades.
- Stanley Cups: 2004 over Calgary, 2020 over Dallas and 2021 over Montreal.
- Other Finals: 2015, a six-game loss to Chicago, and 2022, a six-game loss to Colorado.
- Presidents' Trophy: 2018–19, a 62-win season that tied the NHL record.
- Retired numbers: Martin St. Louis (26) and Vincent Lecavalier (4).
Where to sit for a Lightning game
The arena has three seating levels for hockey: the 100 level (the lower bowl, sections 101 to 130, wrapping the rink), the 200 level (a smaller club and terrace ring) and the 300 level (the upper bowl). Seat number 1 in each row sits on the aisle next to the lower-numbered section, which helps when you are picking aisle seats.
Center ice and the benches
RateYourSeats places the player benches in front of sections 130, 101 and 102, with the penalty boxes across the ice. Sections on either side of center ice give the full-rink view that serious hockey fans want, and rows 10 and higher clear the glass and the standing players at the benches.
The end where the Lightning shoot twice
TickPick and RateYourSeats both place the Lightning's attacking net for the first and third periods in front of sections 108 and 109. The visitors shoot twice toward sections 123 and 124. Seats behind the 108–109 end see more home scoring chances; the 123–124 end usually costs less.
Glass seats and the clubs
Rows A and B in the 100 level are glass seats, sold with club access and food and drink for Lightning games. TickPick notes a practical rule: if you are not in the first two rows downstairs, you will usually see corners and the far end better from row 10 or higher. The 200-level club behind the visitors' attacking end offers a buffet and lounge access.
The 300 level
The upper bowl is the value tier. Rows widen toward the top, and seats near the center-ice line read the play well. Corner seats in the top rows are the ones to skip if you want to follow the puck rather than the video board.
Season shape and the Lightning games in highest demand
Each NHL team plays 82 regular-season games, 41 at home. Preseason games come in late September, the regular season runs from early October to mid-April, and the playoffs run from April into June. Weekend games and holiday-week dates sell earlier than weeknights, and winter visitors to Florida add to demand from January through March.
- The Florida Panthers: the Battle of Florida, an in-state rivalry that turned fierce after the teams' first playoff meeting in 2021. These games are among the hardest tickets of the season.
- Original Six visitors: Toronto, Montreal, Boston, Detroit, Chicago and the Rangers tend to bring visible traveling support, which raises demand for those dates.
- Atlantic Division games: carry standings weight late in the season.
- Playoff games: the highest-demand dates, with pricing tied to the round and the opponent.
Most listings are resale, so prices move with the opponent, the day of the week and the standings. Weeknight games against Western Conference teams that visit once a season are usually the easiest tickets to find.
Game night in Channelside
The arena anchors the Channelside District on the edge of downtown, with restaurants and bars within a short walk, so plan dinner nearby and arrive early on weekends. ThunderBug, the team's lightning-bug mascot, works the crowd and the concourses, and the building has a digital theater organ in a bar and stage area on the terrace level.
Championship celebrations since 2020 have featured boat parades on the Hillsborough River in place of a street parade. Hockey in Tampa means shorts weather outside and a cold rink inside, so a layer is useful in the lower rows.
Getting to the arena and through the doors
The TECO Line Streetcar stops at the arena and links Channelside with downtown and Ybor City, a practical way to skip post-game garage traffic. Garages and lots around Channelside and downtown serve game nights, and event parking rates vary by the date.
- Arrival: check door times on your ticket; warmups are the best time to stand at the glass.
- Bags and tickets: as of the 2025–26 season, NHL arenas generally use mobile entry and limit bag size. Check the arena's current bag policy before you go.
- Name change: rideshare apps and older signs may still say Amalie Arena; it is the same building.

From Expo Hall to back-to-back champions
The Lightning played their first game on October 7, 1992, at Expo Hall on the Florida State Fairgrounds, beating Chicago 7–3 behind four goals from Chris Kontos. That preseason, goaltender Manon Rhéaume became the first woman to play in a game for a major North American pro league. From 1993 to 1996 the team played at the ThunderDome, the reconfigured dome in St. Petersburg now called Tropicana Field, before moving downtown to the Ice Palace.
The 2004 Cup arrived in the team's 12th season. The 2020 title was won in the Edmonton playoff bubble during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the 2021 Cup was clinched at home with a 1–0 win over Montreal on July 7, 2021. The arena has hosted the NHL All-Star Game in 1999 and 2018, the Frozen Four three times and served as the Toronto Raptors' temporary home in 2020–21.
